    Hi all,

I'm going into 6th year in September and I'm already thinking about the order of courses that I want to put down on my CAO.

I want to study geology or earth sciences, but I'm unsure of the differences in the courses in TCD and UCD and career prospects after graduation?
From what I have picked up, both courses in TCD (TR071 and TR077) are a BA. Will this make any difference in finding a decent job post-grad or would I be better studying in UCD (DN200) which is a BSc?

Also, what is the difference between TR071 and TR077? Is it that TR077 is more focused on geology / geography from the beginning?

I would love to specialise in meteorology / geomorphic hazards later in life.

Has anyone here done any of these courses, as I'm utterly lost and confused on the matter.

I'm studying Physics, Biology, Geography, Maths, English, Irish and Spanish (All Higher Level).

Hello! I did TR071 so I'll try help as best I can.

To begin with don't worry about the difference between a BA and a B.Sc. Trinity awards science degrees as BAs out of tradition. (Employers are more interested in the degree subject rather than the letters anyway. I've got a BA in Immunology and no ones ever raised an eyebrow to it.)

As regards the differences between TR071 and TR077, to make a long story short you won't find too many initially. TR077 and courses like Medicinal Chemistry and Human Genetics are fundamentally the same as doing TR071 for the first two years but you have modules pre-selected for you. Doing TR071 will only afford you more choice in these years. I can't comment on doing TR077 in later years but I'm assuming it's a mix of complimentary courses from the geology/geography courses.

Regarding difference between TCD and UCD for science I can't say there's much difference overall when it comes to looking for postgrads. I've met plenty of well qualified people from both. Ultimately it comes down to you and the experience you get during, and the results from, your degree. Just choose the university that you like best.

    Good luck with 6th year!

Thank you for the reply, I'm hoping to go to Trinity as the commute is much shorter for me, so with any luck I'll be walking in next September :)
Now all I need is the points!
