yep, any positives welcome. With recent goings on re:our tax/EU/USA and FDI, are FDI days in Ireland going to be seriously reduced? Article in paper cites reasons big FDI come here as english speaking, low tax and decent infrastructure. it goes on to say smaller start-up stuff is looking for good IT infrastructure, other similar companies, nice place to live, good restaurants, art scene, music etc. Those last few are all things we can contribute to ourselves by supporting the arts, music, restaurant scene etc

EU funding TSSG who do some great research. Its a pity nobody in the Government or civil service does likewise. ARC labs has also brought quite a few jobs to the area as well.

Problem is getting the people down here as we are importing qualified software engineers to fill roles (multi lingual Support,Account Manager roles for EMEA operations) etc and also making people take the big risk moving back from Dublin as job stability is a key factor. Start up could can in 6 months.

You need a combination of MNC's and start up and research centres feeding off these.

For that you need purpose built sites, quality infrastructure, availability of the right calibure of graduate / experienced hires etc. They are the key decisions along with the tax breaks.

This requires investment of more than €2.8m. That won't go far. That's the salary and employer costs of 40 -50 odd people for the year.

Its for TSSG it keeps graduates here, from WIT especially, they in turn regularly setup startups. Feed Henry would be one of these if I'm not mistaken. The research TSSG is essential in getting WIT up the college rankings and has benefited WIT massively already. The businesses out in ARC labs are also aided greatly by having graduates whohave stick around in TSSG and then prefer to stay in the area.
