Brilliant news for a club that has had to suffer a lot in the last few years.
    So many false dawns.

Hopefully they'll stop burning local businesses and hmrc and live within their means now. Fans can't do any worse than all the "businessmen" that have had a crack at it.

Ipswich go for 5 wins a row, last achieved in October 2003 against Wednesday tonight. Happy hunting ground for us. So I have hope.

Forest have hit a real wall, still undefeated but can't buy a goal since that Cup game with Fulham. Derby coming on strong now, another solid 2-0 win.

If Wolves win tomorrow they go top.

it really is a great league , good crowds , without the obscene salaries of the Champions league circus and pretty equal teams - very little in it - I fancied Fulham at start of season , thankfully didn't bet on it - now Forest & Derby would be my bets for promotion.

They will probably still get back to the Premiership before Leeds do :o

Cobblers got a 1 1 draw today. Scored early against the run of play, had a man sent off for time wasting (when he was waiting for a Wycombe substitution!) had a man elbowed out cold in the second half and conceded in the ninth minute of injury time when the board showed 5 minutes. The 800 Northampton fans were less than impressed with the ref. Premier league teams think they have sh*t officials, league 2 has the utter dross.

Point away against team at top end of league would normally be a good thing though, so onward and upward.

Dougie Freedman leaves Bolton. Bolton lose anyway

I see Gregor Robertson was the man you had sent off, he claimed not to proceed with the throw-in as he was waiting for a sub to come on, but the ref gave him a second yellow for time wasting! Was he hard done by? They only gave brief highlights on FL Show.

Incidentally, the bold Gregor was voted left full back on the All Time Worst Nottm Forest XI in 2010 :D

Ipswich tomorrow at The City Ground. A couple of mates are gone over for the weekend - me thinks they'll have sore necks from watching the ball in the sky for 90 continuous minutes.

Well I'm obviously biased but the ref apparently made some odd decisions. Played 11 minutes when the board said 5 minutes, Robertson was adamant the sub was there, board with sub number on the touch line so yellow definitely harsh. Robertsons done ok for the Cobblers, but expectations aren't the same between a team usually looking up and team more often than not looking down! The highlights were certainly Wycombe friendly, as was the little chat in the studio afterwards, Cobblers just an inconvenience to their narrative.

Watford have appointed their 4th manager of the season. The last manager only lasted a week and a bit, and had Watford up in 3rd place. The chairman is absolutely bonkers. Still it somehow is working

McKinlay is off to Fulham apparently. If so not the clubs fault.

Wimbledon beat Milton Keynes away in the JPT last night which is a big deal for them.

Cobblers carried on their decent start to season beating Portsmouth 2 - 1 at Fratton Park.

The lad in goal, on loan, Archer is shocking, very soft goal according to friends. Been a fairly poor game apparently, Cobblers just edged first half prior to goal. Mohammed missed an open goal before to Burton scoring, and Blyth (who is an ex Cobbler!) scored against us. Did the decent non-celebration thing though.

Cobblers back on level terms. Cresswell with the equaliser from volley 12 yards out.

And Archer lets another long range effort in, and Burton lead again.

Brewers back to winning ways, Cobblers continue their inconsistency.

    Hats off to Dave Beasant!

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/oct/11/dave-beasant-stevenage-substitute-age-55
The former Wimbledon goalkeeper Dave Beasant, who won the FA Cup in 1988, was named as a substitute for League Two Stevenage on Saturday, at the age of 55.

If he had been called into action, Beasant, who is the club’s goalkeeping coach, would have become English football’s oldest ever professional, beating the record of Neil McBain, the manager of New Brighton, who in 1947 played in goal against Hartlepool at the age of 51 due to a spate of injuries.

Looks like the Forest bandwagon has truly ground to a halt - 7 games without a win in all comps while Russell Slade gets his Cardiff career off with a victory. Andy Reid seems to be the missing ingredient X for Forest.

Another defeat for the Cobblers today, scoring fairly freely but also conceding very easily. Got an excellent away following this year 500 plus in crowd of under 2500 at Cheltenham.

Cobblers heading for yet another defeat at home, against struggling local (ish) rivals Oxford.

Forest only drawing tonight makes that 8 without a win? and Cardiff with another win.

Wolves with a great victory over Boro.

My own team Blackburn made hard work of Birmingham but sure a win is a win!

Birmingham are going to hold talks with Burton manager Gary Rowett, good young manager and no compensation due to the Brewers so very attractive for Brum.

Barnet 8 points clear at the top of the conference. 1 or 2 more games played than their close rivals but still nice position to be in. Martin Allen and Barnet really seems like a match made in heaven. Shame he never stays around long enough to prove it definitively but maybe this time will be different

Would be a big blow for Burton to lose him.

I still have mixed feelings about the sacking of Lee Clark. The form deserved it, only one home win in 24 games. However, he had to deal with all the off-field problems. He worked on a shoe-string budget. He was good at promoting youth from the academy and spotting good youth players in other teams. He was let down by the fact more experienced players and signings let the team down. Fans are lining up to stick the boot into him. He probably should have stepped down after we stayed up last season, would have left a better legacy.

Gary Rowett is certainly the fan favourite, as he is a former player. With the fact the fan reaction was key to getting Clark sacked, it might play a part in getting Rowett the job. It will be a step up for him, and he is not inheriting a great squad. Most of the squad are either young players or fringe players we brought in from Championship and League 1 sides. I would prefer Rowett to the usual collection of managers that populate the betting lists.

Another game, another defeat for Cobblers, another old boy Guttridge last minute winner by look of things. 10000 there at Luton. Bad to worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

Birmingham City's caretaker manager Malcolm Crosby said he would use today's home game to prove to the club and the fans why he should get the job permanently. Loses 8-0.

I say even Doris the tealady is thinking about withdrawing her interest in the job.

Shame for Burton, hope he does well. Tough job at Brum.

In other news, the FA cup draw is tonight, first round proper. Usually the beginning, and end, of Northampton's cup run.

Big day's transfer activity at Southend today. Lee Barnard out, Jacob Sokolik and Elliot Lee in. Sokolik was quality for us last season and Lee is meant to be very highly regarded at West Ham so I'm happy with those. Shame it hasn't worked out for Barney though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

Lee Clark is Blackpool's new manager. He must have a thing for badly run clubs. I wish him luck.

Rowett's first game for Birmingham tomorrow. Couldn't be a harder game. Wolves, away from home, and on TV. A draw would be a fantastic result.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Fantastic, finally after weeks, the Cobblers have won again. Nicholls getting his first for Northampton since his horrific leg break 2 years ago. Google the pic, miracle he can walk normally, let alone be back playing football.

Birmingham have won their first home game in ages. Great start to the Rowett era with a draw and now a win against top of the table teams. Still in the bottom 3 but no longer on the slide. Hopefully can put a bit of a run together and it is not just a new manager bounce.

2-1 win for Ipswich tonight. 2 wins from 2 after Blackpool on Saturday has us just 3 points off the top.

Good to see Daryl Murphy scoring so much this season. Surely an option for the game against Scotland.

Boro - they came from nowhere! 10 points cover half the league, every team bar Blackpool could yet finish in the top 6. Loads of goals. Great league.

Lee got injured 35 minutes into his first training session and is out for two months. Barnard scored on his debut. Bloody hell.

9 so far this season and playing well. Would love to see Ireland bring in David McGoldrick as well. Surely a strike partnership playing week in week out, even at Championship level, would be worth a try at International level.

Nottm Forest are in meltdown 0-3 to promoted Brentford as I type, wonder how much longer Pearce will get - he seems to keep doing this - a bright start and then mediocrity and failure.

Not just himself, but Forest too.

I am a little shocked by their demise in form the past 10 games (I think).
