Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Worst way to be relegated. Sitting at home watching sky sports news or a stream .

To think Wigan were one of the favourites for promotion of the start of the season, what a disaster of a year.

Look at Fulham and Reading too.

A lot of Sunderland fans think we will come back relatively easily if/when we go down this year. That just simply won't be the case and I'm blue in the face from saying it. It's a horrendous division to get out of and given the amount of games played in a short period of time it's just as easy to get stuck in a bad run as it is to put a winning run together.

Bolton are stagnating too. You need to more or less bounce straight back up or you risk being a Leeds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,589 ✭✭✭patmac

Petered out??...Nonsense a champion has yet to be crowned and 2 playoff places are up for grabs.
Well compared to the way things looked a couple of weeks ago lets say less exciting as Derby vs Reading who have a real cup hangover might be over early and a point will do Ipswich. As for champions I would imagine Bournemouth could struggle as they will probably have a real hangover so I might back Charlton in an effort to recoup some of the money I waged on Wigan and Fulham at the start of the year.

or worse Portsmouth. Since 09-10 where both Newcastle & WBA got promoted in the auto spots having being relegated from the Premier League the previous season just QPR and West Ham made instant returns but their path was via the play-offs.

Some media outlets would have you believe the Championship is heaps inferior to the Premier league and people who refer to we'll say not so good players as "Championship players" I can't take seriously at all.

Maybe the Premier league is suffering due to clubs wanting to unlock the next big foreign star this leads to many average players scattered throughout the league. Some actual championship players aren't spoken about unless their club ends up in the Premier League even Harry Kane would still be on loan with Millwall or that had Soldado and Adeybayor being firing in goals.

arse crunchingly tight, as things stand Brentford will deny Wolves a place in the top 6 with Derby 7th but the margins are very small indeed. its HT in all the games.

Brentford are 2-0 and they are playing Wigan so that's that for Wolves. Ipswich are losing but still head of Wolves so they don't matter.

A goal now for Derby would see Ipswich miss out, as it stands.

Blackpool supporters invade the pitch and its mayhem by the sound of it.

Wolves score 2-0, if they win 5-0 (or is it 6-0?) and Ipswich lose and Derby loose Wolves will be 6th!

edit - bugger Wolves 2-1 forget that idea!

Aiden O'Brien with goal for Millwall. Played U21 for Ireland last year. Has been getting his game since Holloway got sacked and has been their best player in most matches. Possible future Irish forward. Doubt he'll still be at Millwall next season.

Another 10 mins and it starts to get a bit panicy for Derby. Teams often end up try too hard and rushing things. They need keep calm. 1 goals gets them to the play offs

    Wolves 3-1

    Reading 2-0 Derby are toast.

    Ipswich▼ 1:3 46 22 12 12 71:54 78
    Wolves▲ 3:1 46 22 12 12 69:55 78

Only needing a point against a team playing for nothing going in to the last game. They'd probably have been happy with that before the season.

How Derby and McClaren have messed up this season? Might be best if McClaren leaves at the end of the season

It appears he already has his feet under the managers table at Newcastle.

Fair play Mick McCarthy. No mean feat getting playoffs given the financial constraints there.

Fantastic to see Darren Bent miss a penalty to get Derby back to 1-1 which would have been enough for them to stay in the playoff spots but hey, I'm not bitter. :pac:

The wally with the brolly is exiting the ground and presumably heading straight up to Newcastle.

Fantastic job by Mark Warburton at Brentford, especially when he knows he getting the sack at the end of the season.

Did they call off the Blackpool game or what? How long are they going to sit there?

Some collapse from Derby since February. In top 2 most of the season. In the playoff spots late on. Drop to 8th on the final day.

Bury sneaked last automatic spot from league 2. Southend will have to go again in play offs, sounded deflated according to BBC reports, Brown might have a job getting them up for the extra games. Wycombe threw away a 2 goal lead against the Cobblers, not that it mattered in the end, sneaking winner at the end.

A meh season for Northampton but hopefully signs that next season will be better, and at least there was no relegation fight this year.

Good way to do it too! Coming from goal down with ten men. Good luck in League One.

We shouldn't be deflated. We have won seven out of the last eight.

Yesterday was disappointing but we go again next Sunday. Southend never do things the easy way.

Mk Dons have finally got into the Championship, regardless of the idea of franchise football that many baulk at, it's been a great season for them and I hope they do OK. Not a view shared by many Northampton fans that I know. Preston will have to make do with the playoff route.

Yeah I'm a fan myself, can't believe it right now, I thought Preston would get 2nd. Hopefully they can get through the championship without going straight back down and they can build from there. If Preston don't make up through the play offs I hope Sheffield do since my uncle it's a lifelong fan.

yep, fair play , 2 best teams going up - the Championship will once be extremely tight , with nothing between the teams - think Bristol and MK Dons will do alright.

Good news the Football League highlights are going to be on at a decent time of day when Channel 5 take over next season. Going to be on at 9pm, so hopefully might get a few Premier League fans tuning in before Match of the Day.

Time will tell what kind of job Channel 5 do but the BBC show was no great shakes anyway.

It is a good time... except for those with no access to Channel 5. It isn't carried by UPC over here

Ah, yeah, not so good. I have freesat so it's on there, or sky boxes can tune it in to "other channels". Didn't think of cable. Hopefully online catch up will be included, not too hard to bypass any geo restrictions to watch.

Opted for L1 playoffs over EL tonight was rewarded with a cracking game Sheffield U v Swindon, Blades took lead, Swindon had a chance to score from the penalty spot not long after but Gladwins peno was saved, early in second half they did equalize and not only that a winner arrived for Mark Robbins side in the 94th minute very entertaining indeed.

Are the play off semi's the same format as the champions league?

Big win away for Boro. They were playing for a draw in the second half, but nicked a goal in injury time. Difficult for Brentford to go to the Riverside to get a result.

Ipswich v Norwich starting now this should be good. Huge local rivalry and with what's at stake. Interesting to see that Norwich have left Wes Hoolahan on the bench in such a big game.

Yeah, shame, can't stick Wycombe. Their manager has zero class.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Those two late Plymouth goals are hopefully massive. Right back in the tie now, they looked a very good side when I saw them batter Northampton, so no reason why they can't beat Wycombe who were very average despite beating the Cobblers at home.

Whats the story with the Blackpool Huddersfield game? Are they going to award in to Huddersfield or what seeing as its dead rubber anyway? Probably not huge money at stake but 3 points moves huddersfield up and spot and leeds down 1.

Being discussed at the Football League board meeting on 14th May. No decision has been made on awarding points yet.
