Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There made for slots 2 and 4 if you plan to only fill 1 and 3 with actaul ram.

Noticed today that a lot of pc monitors on Amazon, majority won't dispatch to Ireland? And they are sold and dispatched by amazon

Edit: just checked some more stuff, echo dot also now showing won't dispatch to Ireland, it seems a big change has occurred, all sorts of tech stuff sold and dispatched by Amazon show won't deliver to Ireland

Looks like it's primarily aimed at laptops. Interesting all the same.
The 10nm part will contain both a Sunny Cove high power core, and four Atom cores, in a style that is familiar from modern ARM processors: light workloads will be able to use the low power Atom cores, but the Sunny Cove can be powered up for more computationally expensive tasks. This chip will be aimed at ultra-mobile systems with the processor measuring 12×12×1mm and having a standby power of 2mW.

Is there a PC store in Dublin with normal prices which have stock on the spot? A friend of mine is looking for a last minute gift, a RX580.

Seen a i7 3770k going for €120, is there much of performance difference from a 2500k

Can windows scheduler even do anything with that? At the moment, Windows just picks a free thread for the task and the firmware/board ramps up the core as needed right?

Actually if anyone wants a steam code for devil may cry 5 and resident evil 2 make me an offer. Think you need to have an rx570 or 580 in your system

Your only way of finding one in Ireland will be on Adverts.ie

My suspicion is that that'll just be the start. Mobile devices are the low hanging fruit when it comes to mixing and matching. Long-term, I expect this to show up in desktop architectures from Intel as a direct 'our package is better' answer to Ryzen's design.

As per Geizhals price history, they've only been going up in price since August/September

If you're looking to upgrade, check with your motherboard vendor if it supports i5-9600K / i7-9700K

I'll be getting a new motherboard and ram too. I'll probably just splash out on the current price on either 8700k or 9700k. I'm upgrading from a 3570k and hope for it to last me another 5 years like my faithful 3570k did :)

Why not get a Ryzen 2600/2700 instead?

That socket is good for another 2 years at least (i.e. Ryzen 3000-series will slot right in) and tbh you're better off spending on a good GPU than worrying about your CPU these days.

    I got a 300 euro One4All voucher. I fecking hate them

You use to beable to convert them to use on Amazon but I think that's gone now

I shop in supervalu for groceries. They take one4all. I just put away the value in the voucher in cash and use the voucher for the weekly shopping.

We get them in work to be tax efficent so there great in that sense but yeah,it was handy when you could convert to amazon.

I'm still undecided really, but am a little bit of an Intel fanboy.

I have a 1080Ti so I'm good in the gpu department but the 3570k is currently bottlenecking me hence why I'm currently looking to upgrade.

Agreed, use them for the weekly shop, and spend the cash saved on tech goodness, that's what I do. Shame they are capped at €500 a year tax free :( It used to be soo much better many moons ago.

Anyone try Nvidia OC scanner for pascal cards yet? MSI Afterburner's latest beta includes it.

Have a decent OC on my 1080 already but id be interested to see what sort of clocks, voltage, temps the OC scanner would push. Gonna try it next time i can get on the PC

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,417 ✭✭✭.G.

Just tried it on my Gaming X 1080, average OC its said was 97Mhz and the dominant limiter is power. I've had 100Mhz manually applied to mine with no issues since I bought it. Never bothered going higher.

Testing it added 113Mhz with temps around mid 70s.

I haven't looked into this yet but wondering does this work well with 1070ti cards.
Something to do with clocks locked on 1070ti cards to 1070 card levels unless you run something from the manufacturer to unlock...

Dont know. Didnt hear anything about that happening.

It is still in beta though so maybe just avoid it till full release.

Any worthwhile upgrade from a GTX 770 for around €200? Mate is convinced he needs and upgrade, wants to get a used GTX970 at around €130. Only really plays Overwatch, but that could change in the future. 970 is grand for everything I play on mine but the VRAM is a problem going forwards, or is it?

Would a new 1060 6gb or RX 580 8gb be worth stretching to 300 for?

    RX 580 8Gb & GTX 1060 6Gb are actually back down to €215-250 range (RX 570/580 4Gb are below 200).

The slightly better RX 590 is €275-290

I've also spotted this GTX 1070 for €300
    https://www.caseking.de/inno3d-geforce-gtx-1070-twin-x2-8192-mb-gddr5-gci3-092.html?sPartner=185&utm_source=geizhals&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=geizhals&campaign=psm/geizhals&wt_mc=preisvergleich.geizhals.feed
which would blow all 3 above out of the water.

Having said that - for 1080p or even 1440p @60fps in the majority of titles the GTX 970's 3.5Gb VRAM is sufficient for now.
Just make sure to overclock it *(overclock the core!)

CES 2019 is 8-12. January & will hopefully have new GPU announcements, too.
