    Yarp.

It's one of many reasons I'm still on my current platform.

Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti results are in.

Interesting; in some games it's basically a GTX 1080, in others it lags behind even when overclocked.

I see AMD have dropped pricing on Ryzen to combat Coffee Lake. Ryzen 1600 now £136 delivered.

I guess that was literally just a flash sale for some reason?

    Now back to full price....

    That's a different seller.
Amazon were the seller at the lower price, I'd say they're just sold out.
If the price drop was from AMD it should be restocked at the lower price.

Anyone ever buy from Alza.co.uk? They're cheapest for my Mobo, RAM and Case so thinking of ordering from them, delivery will cost a max of £12 for all 3 items which makes it a good saving.

I'd say they are decent to buy from. I honestly never heard of them until I watched a couple of Actual Hardcore Overclocking videos on YouTube. They seem to sponsor a lot of his videos.

Intel and AMD today announced "AMD To Develop Semi-Custom Graphics Chip For Intel".

Seems interesting, but I would have preferred a more power-efficient NVIDIA GPU.

My friends were out with me during school lunch today, and one of them was questioned what an AMD Ryzen is. He answered that it's the criminal/organisation from GTA V! :D
I asked him what an Intel Core i5 is, and this same guy answered that it's Trump building the Mexican wall.

Was never going to happen though, AMD are doing poorly so such a deal is a win for them. For nVidia it would be a big loss.

Now they have their worst nightmare though. Can be left out in the cold unless CISC dies off (it wont).

I know it's bad time to buy gpu, but I got a request to find best bang for the money for 250-300eu.
Would 1060 6gb still be the best option?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,036 ✭✭✭wheresmahbombs

If you want to game at 1080p 60fps very high/ultra settings, then yes, it should be the best option.

Well, I got 1060 6gb myself and running 3440x1440 60hz very comfortably. He has 1440p monitor.

It just I was out for pc building for a while and a bit rusty with current state. Was wondering if there is alternative to it.

Well if he wants an older second hand card that is better than the 1060 he can go Fury X or 980Ti.

I have an RX 580 that seems to be working well though apparently, it uses a lot more power than the 6GB 1060.

That's typical of today's AMD cards. If this was the GTX 480 vs. the HD 5870, then this would have been a different story. But it's 2017, not 2010. This is a time where NVIDIA leads the way in GPU performance-per-watt.

Well, there is no way 1060 can run 1440p, unless he is OK with medium/high details below 60 fps

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,036 ✭✭✭wheresmahbombs

The 1080 Ti would do the job for 3440x1440 60fps+ at ultra settings. A 1060 6GB wouldn't be too bad for 2560x1080 gaming at high/ultra settings.
I'm rocking a 750 Ti and while I can run today's games fine at lower details, there are some games like Doom that I can't reach a stable, constant 60fps without turning down the resolution. Same goes for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

1080ti would not do the job at 3440x1440 at ultra. Maybe some games like bf1, and some older stuff. But games like deus ex, ghost recon will make 1080ti sweat even at 1080p.
    And trust me , I know , I have 1080ti

    GTX 1060 = GTX 980

    Nothing wrong with medium/high

    Ultra is for dumbnuts

As I said before, I run ultrawide on 1060 6gb. At that resolution I turn off AA and never encountered much issues to hit 60fps. Unless its unoptimised garbage like players unknown.
2500k is not very modern, so that holds back that too.

Saying that you cant run 1060 6gb at 1440p is plain wrong.

P.s A lot of ultra settings are garbage too. There are there just to make your system sweat for very little improvement. So if I turn down those, I cant swag about my massive ultra ePenis, but I can play like a normal regular size ePenis owner.

580's use around 150-200w depending on clock speeds. Polaris was really power efficient and it seems an outright better architecture than Vega but the power does start jumping up a lot with higher clock speeds. At stock it's only 50w more than the 1060 though and it has slightly higher average performance.

Pubg is well optimised. Maybe you haven't played it in a while. I get 60-90 fps with a 970 at 1920x1080 upscaled to 2560x1440. Lowered settings granted but I'm just trying to push as many frames as I can.

Considering my card and the size of the world map, draw distance + the 100 player count and the game engine I'd say that's pretty damn well optimised.

It is the first game that's made me really want to upgrade my card though so I can run native 2560x1440 with some higher settings.
