I have that feeling too. However I keep telling myself that I read somewhere mentioning that it's aiming to be reasonably priced. If it's <150, then I think thats not too bad.

What LED's or lighting are people using for the backs of tables etc? OH and I are looking at doing up the gaming area a bit.

Just generic Chinese led strips from eBay. Probably best to get the colour changing one to set the mood :P

Tried to fix my missing ram issue which I've had since 2012 I think. What's wrong is one dimm is showing as abnormal in the bios, so I've got 30ish gb ram addressable instead of 32gb.

Took it all out yesterday to try get to the bottom of it.

Found three standoffs had their thread removed from me over-tightening them when I first built it, took out the extra standoffs I had in the motherboard tray too just in case they were touching anything at the back and grounding it.

Sneezed around 630 times because of all the dust

Decided I would dust everything while it was all out

It may have been for the good of my health
    94FF78F7BE68456EB022164ADC5F73B1-0000355618-0003775711-00400L-FA02C63F4B8B437EAD02E8FA7B1E56C5.gif

I swapped the 'abnormal' stick with the one closest to it, to check if it was the motherboard slot or the ram
    BEFAC514AC514489BB39F411264910C6-0000355618-0003775708-00800L-0D75D530A33245D9A84DA0F09B958408.jpg

The dimm is showing as abnormal in its new slot, so I am fairly sure it is the ram not the board now.

    Bonus: found a peely bit

Also updated my bios to a new version and I'm going to try do an offset overclock and keep speedstep and c states. I was at 4.4ghz constant before at 1.35v, after running 4.8ghz for about 15 months at 1.4 something volts.
Might try for 4.8 with offset for 24/7.

So still on my list to figure out / fix is sending the noisy terrible h100 back, sending the ram back to gskill and then sorting out what I'm going to do for storage space.

That rad was manky :p Its amazing how quickly dust builds up. Have a mate with a garage, took my K70 keyboard over last weekend to give it a quick blast-holy f**K the gank that came out from under the keys..

Magnetic dust filters are worth a look, have them on my case; just un-clip every few weeks and give them a quick hoover. They stop nearly everything except the really fine dust-which is minimal anyway.

Just lifted the WASD keys on my board  Rank isn't the word

Have a quick search of household dust contents if you want to properly freak yourself out :)

What are the other two keys Danger, and what are their differences? Mine only has the four (red, blue, black and brown).

Blue – 50g Force – Audible Click, Tactile Bump
    Brown – 45g Force – Tactile Bump
    Red – 45g Force – Smooth/Linear
Green – 80g Force – Audible Click, Tactile Bump
    Clear – 55g Force – Tactile Bump
    Black – 60g Force – Smooth, Linear

Turns out I love green switches :D

The dust from the whole computer was disgusting, first time it had been cleaned since I built it around this time in 2012

Just checked there and I was actually emailed a postage thing for my h100i rma on the second of February.. 2014. Oops.

Might just take the hit and do a week without the computer and send off the ram and cooler at the same time

PSU seems to be gone in one of the computers at work. Anyone got any suggestions for a cheap replacement that isn't likely to just break straight away?

Considering what it'll be used for I'm not worried about the listed rating vs actual rating or anything like that, just want the cheapest option that I can trust not to blow up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

BeQuiet do 300w for €30 or so, you can get cheaper handy I'd say, 200 or 250w is probably enough

Corsair's VS line is also an option if you can find them. I think the 350W model goes for around €30 or so.

Cheers, I'll take a look tomorrow and see what I can get.

Received my Superlux 668B headphones today. Have to say I'm very impressed and haven't had much discomfort with them, only been using them for over an hour so time will tell. The velour earpads are a very good addition also.

Got myself a switch tester :)

Got that myself from massdrop while back. Although struggle to see major differences between them

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,307 ✭✭✭Xenoronin

I can definitely feel the difference between reds, browns and blues anyway. Not really a fan of browns even though I have that at home on my blackwidow (stealth edition). Use reds at work. You can hear blues from a mile away. Anything anything but those three are just different springs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,687 ✭✭✭Danger781

I can feel the difference between all of them easily enough. The linear switches (Red and Black) don't feel nice to type on at all. Not a fan of the clear either as the bump is almost too noticeable. Blues feel a bit mushy to me. I love the Greens as they're the only switch I don't bottom out.

I'm the exact opposite. I love the reds to type on. There is no feedback when the switch activates but I don't care about that anyway. It's like typing on a cloud. Browns feel too scratchy. Blues are just too loud for the office or even at home since I have housemates.

Was thinking of grabbing a multimeter on Amazon; it's only 6 pounds as an add on item.

Will I be able to read any meaningful data with it on my motmotherboard? Such as overall power draw, CPU power draw etc?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,687 ✭✭✭Danger781

Well I just broke my CPU while attempting to reapply thermal paste.. Bent the hell outta two or three pins.. One broke off in my attempts to repair it.. I am not a smart man! :-)

So the question now is do I get a temporary AMD3+ socket CPU to keep me up and running for the time being, or do I invest in some upgrades? I had planned on a complete overhaul of almost everything in a few months time..

To top it all off I'm going on Holidays this weekend so I'll have to face all this when I get back

Depends on what kinda machine you want, and what your budget is, but Skylake launches in a month. Might be worth a look if you're after a higher end machine.

That's what I would be looking at in a few months from now when it's more mainstream. Probably worth holding off and getting a replacement CPU for now..

    Anyone order from hardwareversand in the last week or so? Getting this error on the 3rd saying from UPS;
An emergency situation or severe weather condition has delayed delivery. / Delivery will be rescheduled.

Probably going to get a FX6300 as a temporary solution until I'm ready to upgrade.. Unless someone can offer any other recommendations.. Can get it delivered from Amazon with next day delivery to Parcel Motel for about €115.. It's €145 in PC World!

I know it's a bit of a downgrade from my 8350 but I don't feel like buying another one of those for the sake of a few months..

If anyone has any thoughts let me know please as I'll be ordering tomorrow before 1pm tomorrow!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,307 ✭✭✭Xenoronin

I say go for it Danger. It isn't a massive step down and should keep you running until a proper upgrade is available.

I heard there was disruption in some of the rail networks in Europe due to warm weather buckling the tracks. Could be putting pressure on their other transport lines too as a result.
