Why do so many large businesses and especially government departments still use the call save numbers 1850 and 1890, with usually no alternative land line number?

Most people these days have mobile phones which they use all the time and don't use a phone line much for phone calls. To phone these call save numbers on a mobile can be very expensive especially if you have to "hang on" for half an hour waiting your turn.

When possible, I will use Skype for land line and international calls (my mobile phone is a basic pay as you go phone, no camera or other "kids' extras") but many call save numbers do not offer an alternative number.

When will Irish business and government departments catch up with the real world of mobile technology?
