8-10meg is not the worst but it's just a case of being so near getting 100/20 just a 20 minute walk from the door that's annoying. But at least this issue should be fixed within the next 5 to 6 years. But before that happens the current connections are going to feel much slower in the year's to come before it's fixed as the internet is getting progressively much more connection intense as the months/years slip by.

Surprised by the connection speeds in Germany, I would have taught that most if not all customers could get at least 50megs+ in rural Germany and at least 100megs+ in all towns and cities! I thought it was fibre all the way throughout countries like The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden!.
No definitely not. Germany has huge regional differences. Bavaria has made a decent effort to connect its rural villages up but it's by far the wealthiest state here. In other places lots of users still on ISDN (and worse).

You may think you have it bad being "so near but yet so far" but i can top you. We've bought a site at number 12 xyz street. A private company will be rolling out (fairly expensive but I'd pay for it) VDSL around the town BUT our cabinet is not listed as being upgraded (none of the cabinets in and around the exchange are, I suspect Telekom has stuck their oar in and somehow blocked it) so guess what....from next year my neighbours from number 15 and up will be able to order this VDSL product. We will have to wait indefinitely until something happens. We'll lay extra conduit under the drive for the day in the distant future when FTTH becomes available here (or even cable!).

I'm not moaning though. It was our choice to buy this site. The other advantages made it stack up for us.
