Definitely some casting missing I'd say.

Neither Storm or Jean would be weird omissions in a Beast/Cyclops/Nightcrawler team.

I have a feeling they will die at the end of either this movie or secret wars

There's a possibility everything dies in Secret Wars…

I thought Deadpool and Wolverine's sendoff to the Fox era was unearned (and turns out not to be one, go figure) but as tired as this multiverse stuff is, it's hard not to feel something at the prospect of seeing Marsden's Cyclops again.

Edit: Gosh that cast list is exhausting and I watched the abridged version. Can Tatum be some version of X-Men '97 Gambit and not the Deadpool one plz?

I suspect that this X Men Team isn't the Fox Team, so I wouldn't be surprised if Tatum is back to play a different, more viable going forward, version of Gambit. I can't lie, I'm interested in seeing these actors give it one last go by playing a different version of the characters we know.

James Marsden, for example, deserves a pop at playing a Cyclops who is more than just his romance with Jean.

Tbf Fox did nail casting very well especially in the first trilogy. They might have butchered other parts but the casting was generally fantastic with few blunders. Like if Stewart and McKellen were 20 years younger I dont think anyone else would have a hope of being Xavier or Magneto.

I assume it will be like Logan in Deadpool and Wolverine all different versions of characters. I hope they get the same accurate uniforms and make Nightcrawler fuzzy.

Maybe thats why Jean/Storm/Rogue are missing as Marvel havent cast them yet?

I think GotG are done. With James Gunn gone to the other side, it'd be wrong to use them without his input. No sign of the young avengers either but I hear we've had a hinted update in Daredevil.

    This too shall pass.

I'd say we'll see the GOTG again even without Gunn. Not all of them, but there's pretty much a new GOTG team with Rocket & Groot, and the post-credits of GOTG3 said Star-Lord will return and he's on Earth, so Gunn himself would have had a hand in that. We probably won't see Gamora, Nebula, Drax or Mantis again though.

We almost certainly won't get new GOTG movies (who the hell would want to try emulate or continue what James Gunn achieved with those films), but as part of a bigger ensemble like Avengers movies, I'd say the new GOTG will show up in some form.

    agreed

And Pratt has said on Jimmy Kimmel that he will be back.

Tatum will almost definitely be the same D&W version of Gambit, just without the 18's humour. But accent, look, general cadence… he's there because of how popular his appearance in D&W was, so that's pretty much the same version we'll get going forward.

They may need to tone down Tatum's accent.

Imagine if they had each of the actors come in and sit for each reveal like they did with RDJ. Poor Chris sitting there for 5 hours.

The x-men charactors are a bit wierd - and points to them being an alt-universe set I guess, rather than the exact characters from the original trilogy. Mainly cause Cyclops was killed in x-men 3.

Not sure on prof x - I know Jean killed him too but iirc he transfered his concisiousness - but is the Prof X that died in Wolverine that same prof X? Was Woverine left vague as to whether it was in the original x-men continuity?

I guess it boils down to whether anyone cares if they are the exact same time line versions?

Look and costume yes but he'll definitely dial down the accent. He purposefully was overdoing it in D&W.

I'm pretty sure Logan was supposed to be the main X-Men continuity, though I think it was set in 2029 so technically Prof.X et al could still be alive in that continuity. Cyclops was kind of brought back to life due to the events in Days of Future Past as well.

But I'd say similar to how we got Wolverine in D&W, they'll probably just go alt-universe. Not that they need to struggle too much trying to adhere to the continuity of the Fox films (especially considering Fox barely tried to adhere to their own continuity), but it'll just give them far more flexibility. With a cast list that long, the less amount of time they spend trying to explain or adhere to continuity of older non-MCU films, the better. "These actors are reprising their old roles, just go with it" will probably be the message.

Official marvel YouTube has what I thought was a sped up version but then the ending is a bit different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,511 ✭✭✭✭Penn

He was definitely overdoing it and if he'd actually played Gambit back in the day when they wanted to do it his accent wouldn't have been anything close to that.

But this is now also the version of him that people liked and are familiar with, and he's in Doomsday because of that popularity from D&W. So he might tone it down a bit, but he's now also a comic relief character and the accent is part of that. So I wouldn't expect too big a change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,262 ✭✭✭Ridley

Yeah he's got 97 brothers and 32 kids to bounce off of. 😉

I don't doubt that the continuity is in the familiarity of the cast rather than any narrative threads. Got to tell people who Doctor Doom is and presumably set up the cameo schmoz that Secret Wars will be after all.

Think we're probably past the point where I'll get something like No Way Home where I'm happy to see Maguire back and make Garfield's version more palatable but, hey, make me give a damn, Marvel, I want you to.

"You'll give us money either way, right?" "…Yes."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,978 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

I mean that comic relief version also impaled the Russians chest with his bo staff before detonating it and also violently exploded multiple foes simultaneously with his cards. So both powers and accent will be less extreme. They aren't making Doomsday R-rated after all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,511 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Toning down powers (or making them less gory at least) wouldn't necessitate changing his accent, as his accent is irrelevant to the rating of the movie.

I think it'll come down to whether this is the same Gambit from D&W (in which case there's no reason his accent would be drastically different) or another alt-universe Gambit (in which case yeah, you would have a reason why his accent would be toned down). But given the popularity of his performance in D&W, I'd say the former is more likely.

While it worked as a meta joke in Deadpool, i'm not sure the 'cant do the accent hes supposed to have' thing would work so well in a more straightforward more serious Marvel movie. Think it would just feel tonally out of place (assuming they're going for a similar tone to previous Avengers movies).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,862 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

he grew up in the Bayous along the Pascagoula river in Mississippi, so he knows the accent.

He can tone it down if he wants..

    I'm delighted he's back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,558 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Yeah, so I think it's going to be his chance to actually play the character, rather than the meta joke version of the character we saw in D&W. Think that'll fit in a lot more naturally with an actual Avengers movie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,978 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Exactly. He can easily do the accent properly so no reason he wont. I think its safe to say Doomsday's entire tone will be slightly different to D&W so he will change accordingly.

They could bring back starlord and any other character (strange) like they use Hulk. They don’t need their own movies, they are well established already.
