Just had a look at the charts for tonight/tomorrow. Possible blizzard conditions for the Wicklow mountains? It looks like the front will stall at that latitude and a thin line might get snow?

Temps around 3 C and Dp of 2C in Wicklow tomorrow , snow highly unlikely.

There's a micro climate around lug though, it will probably have snow above 800 mtrs, maybe lower in the immediate vicinity

I see the wicklow weather page on fb is giving blizzard conditions for any of the highest peaks tomorrow

All depends on precip intensity and evaporative cooling.

There are ripe conditions (including, gentle offshore winds) for a bit of cooling to occur but I fear the precip won't be heavy enough.

But regardless good chance of sneachta above 500m on the Wicklow mountains.

1 degree in Knock and 12 in Cork. A good example of the diversity of weather you can have on this little island.

While the charts look pretty horrendous for cold right now.

In the stratosphere things have changed totally, with a split of the polar vortex occurring and a reversal of the mean flow. If things work out a propagation of polar vortex split to the lower layers of the troposphere could occur.

The result could be a dramatic pattern shift towards the end of January.

Here is a lovely chart illustrating the split in 5 days time

with the sea surface tempeture cooling as the winter progresses, it maybe an event like last saturday morning may bring a widespread snowfall to lower levels if the current pattern continues to prevail throughout winter

regarding a pattern change due to strat developments, it seems any atlantic ridging could well be temporary, as the strat polar vortex wil reform in a weeks time.
it's still too early to conclude, but so far the uk met office seasonal outlook have been correct about the winter so far. we can only hope it goes awry soon.

there's no denying that this is yet another crap winter so far which has delivered nothing so far and the outlook seems bleak (from a cold, snowy perspective) with plenty of straw clutching. Would one day of snow between now and 28th of February save this winter? For some people they are happy with 1 day of snow per winter, but often we don't even get that, for me winter will only be saved if we experience a 3-5 day period of lying snow thats 3 inchs deep or more.. Stuff like Overnight snow showers in March and sleety rain events from the north and west with snow showers confined to west and north facing coasts does not save a winter by any means.

Last winter was far more interesting even if there was little or no snow. Storm after storm to be tracked.

The old winter is over posts back out. Like weather owes you snow, that posters in here have robbed you of your basic human right to snow.... Enjoy the weather, I look out my window here in Dublin. Dense fog, freezing to the cars. Some folk in here want a fecking Snownadeo to hit them every second day from Dec1st to March 1st.

Anyways at least things are changing in FI. Stronger Atlantic ridging and then a northern block. If things stay this way we could be in for a nice event. Possible under cutting low mixing with a Scandi air feed.

Just heard on the radio some people are predicting blizzards are on the way?
Others said it will be more of this mild weather?

Any truth in the blizzards scenario?
    Thanks

Madden has been spouting crap again like http://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/irish-weather-arctic-conditions-bring-4917588

No reason whatsoever to believe that is going to happen, just usual attention grabbing!
