But for there to be decent snow lying at a relatively low elevation like Montpelier Hill, you would be seeing big flakes on the M50 itself. We had a day or two of that in 2012 and on Three Rock, from the lower carpark up had excellent conditions, but it was still falling at lower elevations. Nothing in the short to medium term suggests that happening. So far I've only seen a dusting at very high elevations in the Dublin mountains (Kippure, Corrig etc.)

Ah I agree, but I have been up there and seen credible proper snow when there was none lying at sea level in Dublin and same for 3 Rock.

Passing over the local hill near home earlier (just under 150m ASL) during the end of a heavy shower, there was a mix of rain and very wet snow falling and the temp was 3c. Took a short video but it's not exactly exciting but it's the closest I've seen to snow of sorts falling. The last dusting last month occurred whilst asleep.

Sea level, no way, but the suburbs (Sandyford, Ballinteer, Firhouse, etc. ) around the foothills should be at least seeing flakes in the sky for a decent dumping at a few hundred metres ASL. I just can't see it without an easterly or North easterly setup.

    Ahem... Wicklow mountains :D

Also... regarding snow up in the Wicklow/Dublin mountains, people would be shocked to see what is only a short drive away from their doorsteps. The following photos were taken in January 2010 when there was no snow lying in coastal Wicklow.

Former. I don't get them as often as I would like - I think I might be looking at snow pictures too much.

The ecm 32 day update says more of the same right through till the end of January and into early February. They and the ukmo have been fairly accurate so far this winter. so at least there will be more opportunities for wet snow in the north and northwest of Ireland in this current pattern.
those of us further afield, must hope there is a favourable pattern change in February.

Yes we need a proper change, any cold in the coming week will probably be just half hearted sh#te really. Any cold coming in off the Atlantic is just a waste of time imho. Lets hope for a change next month to proper cold not this mickey mouse stuff thats being also interspersed with milder days.

It will be interesting to see if the 'OPI', forecast, which was much talked about and relished on UK forums last Autumn, comes into play over the next 2 months or so. As far as I understand, it has a supposed overall negative impact on temperature anomalies over the Jan-Mar period as a whole.

-8 uppers is good for snow but its still a bit out. next week we should see some good cold coming in. the week after that is pure fi but could produce some snow in the northern half of the country....lets see how it all plays out :)

I'm writing off this winter for snow, the trend hasn't come good this year, hope I'm very wrong on this but see ye all again next November!

But the snow isn't a snow event really, it won't stick and will be gone within an hour, anywhere we have had snow this winter, it has been the same story from what I can see. We aren't getting proper sustainable cold, and I say that as a snow junkie, but I just can't see it happening for us this year, hope I am wrong though.

The problem with this kind of set up is that the showers come in and don't give the temp a chance to drop.

The Greek Cycladic islands in the Mediteranean are getting snow as has much of the middle east from Turkey, Israel, Syria and Iraq.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

This winter has been pretty much a big disappointment again this year in terms of cold.
I think it's maybe time to accept that 2010 was a once off :(
