Are most of you not back until next Monday, lads? We're back Thursday! No timetable here either.

I'm back on Monday. I can't imagine the thought of being back on Thursday.

Also back Thursday. Doesn't feel natural to be planning for 21st of August. All schools in our town back on Thurs. Still no timetable.

Timetable arrived today, along with blank for us to fill in our S&S periods on. Back to school Friday (CP day), Induction day Monday, formal teaching resumes Tuesday.

Back Monday . Thursday and Friday were mooted to give us more "flexibility" during the year . Thank god people saw sense.
If we were not goingto draw the line at coming back the 21st of August if be afriad of his early we would be asked to come back in the future

Same with us. Didn't want to set a precedent.

Just got timetable on vsware there today. Back Thursday? Just curious with the above start date....was there much debate? And was there lots who didn't want to go back this week? I suppose I could ask all people who are back this week that question.

Personally I couldn't be more against it. Pretty soon it'll be another demand that will fall into the "ah sure you're already doing it" category.

There was debate about it but ultimately it went to a vote and Thursday won. Still no timetable. I imagine we will get them Wed night or perhaps at the meeting on Thursday. I know it sounds crazy after such long holidays but I really resent being in school on the 21st of August.

Only one or two spoke against it. I didn't as I'm only RPT and in no position for arguing just yet. Much like a lot of the staff in my school.

It was the same in my last school: back Thursday, but there was a lot of debate over it. In the end I think it came down to 55% of the staff saying, 'But sure it's only two days and we're off all summer. It'll allow us to get loads of Croke Park hours out of the way.'

I think it's woeful bollox, though. I know we keep track of our Haddington Road hours, but I think, in all fairness, the people who are back on Thursday will end up doing just as many hours over the year as the people who are back on Monday.

I'm wondering though what percentage were for/against?

With 55/45 split I wonder does that fall under the bracket of consensus? CP Hrs were never meant to be majority rules, or is consensus the same as majority rules?

I gave mine out to staff past week IF they want them, some prefer not to even look at it

Apart from the 5 sub periods, how much yard (supervision) is required each week? (22hr)
    Is it 1.5 hrs max??

You offer five periods but may only end up doing one or two.in our school it's 25 mins a week supervision.there is a max number of hrs a year that you have to do ,think its 34 but will check circular in a min and edit.if job sharing its half this and prorata for those on less hours.make sure you keep a record of what you do so if you reach max hours you can stop.

Max 43 hrs in year for those on 22 hrs.max 3hrs a week ,1.5 sub 1.5 sup.if you did this amount though you would reach 43 hrs in first term and would b free for rest of year.

We do 30 mins supervision per week.
Works out at 19 hours over the year

We're on Call for 3 periods a week (very big staff)
DP keeps track of classes covered and if/when you reach your limit, you're done.

    Works well

Just wondering about something similar. If on a 22hr contract, should my teaching periods all add up to 22, or should the number of hrs be lower to allow for s&s to be added? Apologies if question is stupid, I'm just very confused

You teach 22 hours. S&S is on top of that.

One of the worst things about being pregnant is the insomnia... I'm dreading how I'm going to function when I start back coz I can't sleep more than three hours and I'm wide awake!

That's the way it should work for all, you are lucky that it works that way in your school, wish it did in mine !!

Does anybody else have classes split between two teachers? eg you teach an English class twice in the week and another teacher takes them for the rest?

It happens, last resort but sometimes necessary. Always try to keep it to a minimum
