I gotta give my man Barrett a vote. Him and a few others have really brought prestige back to the IC strap. All of Eddie's best mid-card stuff was with the Tag belts (Los Guerreros) and the Euro belt (Chyna/Latino Heat).

Benoit gets my second vote. We all know how it went down but his career and rise to the top was great feud after great feud.

Guerrero and Santana. Simply can't vote for Benoit in any way shape or form.

The Radicals go through quite smoothly. Both could have a decent run if they are given a good draw. Taking a dragon across the border for the next two fights of round one.

Val and Ricky steamboat for me!

Steamboat and Venis make easy work of The Mountie and Lance Storm. Ten singles match-ups and a handful of Triple Threat matches remain in the first round. Next matches-first to four.

Rock and Goldust. Two of the most memorable IC champions of the 90s.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Gonna go with Rock and Goldust too.

Rock had good IC feuds with Austin, Hunter and Ken Shamrock.

Goldust > Patera from an entertainment point of view.

A mega that would become more Hollywood than Hogan and IMHO one of the most underated workers of all time Goldust advance. Plus points for noticing the gold intercontinental championship sported by Rhodes. If you were one of the many coloured strap champs you get much kudos form myself. I count that as two whitewashes in a row. This round I can’t see a whitewashes-four talents to duke it out.

    Shelton Benjamin and RVD

  • Registered Users Posts: 129 ✭✭Sin Eater

Shelton Benjamin, feel like at the times he held it he was one of the most promising talents around, put on consistently great matches.

Edge, just because I always found him more entertaining than RVD.

Ah come on hhh has to get the win here. The game always wins ! And edge gets my other vote

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

Like the Rock, HHHs rise began with the IC title. He gets my vote.

Same goes for Edge. Though RVD was a good champion also.

    HHH easily over Benj.

I loved RVD and his run but Edge has Intercontinental champ really set the stage for him to become what he was. Loved his style in ring and out and his title defenses as champ. Edge for me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,852 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

HHH and Edge advance. Glad to see Shelton get knocked out always gone him dull as dishwater. IC HHH was no doubt one of the stand out for the New Generation Era.

A Triple Threat round next. Two Brits and one of the earlier champion.

I'm a huge fan of Drew's, but it's the Bulldog that wins it for me here

    “British Bulldog” Davy Boy Smith

His match with Bret at Summerslam is a wrestling clinic and will go down as one of the best Summerslam Main Events ever.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 51,460 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Yeah, British Bulldog ftw here. One of those guys who should have been a world champion imo.

  • Registered Users Posts: 86,373 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,852 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

Davy Boy makes slim pickens of Drew and we get no vote for Pedro. Yet another Triple Threat. A man with a cracking A*se and two blokes who would appricate a box in the mush.

    Bulldog for obvious reasons.

That match will still be talked about 50 years from now.

Billy for me, i thought Rude was the better champion but Billy was always a personal fav of mine and it was great to see him with the belt.
