Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just got back from a school trip to Lisbon :D One of the best trips I've ever been on! It's going to be a pain catching up on four days of work though!

Jakers, I'd say that took some funding. Have a great time.

    Oooh, it's fund raising!

I thought you meant it was €3,000 of your own money from parents or whoever.
Is this for Dev Ed or what?

Best of luck with the fund raising though!

Bleh, I hate doing bad in tests. However it does help you figure out where your weaknesses are.

Oh I forgot we're all doing the same Shakespearean Drama.

King Lear is a load of bollox though, even the teachers in my school were all agreed in that it's the worst and most difficult to learn!

Luck of the draw I guess though!

English teacher I have says king Lear is her favourite since she did it for her LC.

Well, just that uncertainty. It's like a punch to a face, you just realise that tiny mistake or the method of doing the question(even though ye did it all dozen times in class without any fail).

I know how you feeling, going through this period in maths even though the classes are so easy.

How is everybody getting on these days. I'm finding it hard to believe we're just 4 weeks to Christmas. These first few months really did fly.

Totally stressed this past week and I haven't even thought about the Chirstmas tests yet! Grade 8 piano exam tomorrow, won't be able to sleep tonight!

how is everyone getting on with poetry high english, my lad thought it would be easy enough with the notes on each page explaining what that page ment, but it got to him and ask me to sign a form to go back down to O-level...

In the beginning I found the poetry very overwhelming but the more essays and stuff he writes, the better acquainted he'll get with each poet. He'll start remembering quotes without ever learning them and he'll remember different techniques and what not to mention with each poem. Tell him to stick at it for another while! Ordinary English is apparently very easy so it would be of no disadvnatage to him if he waited a bit longer to see how he gets on!

We haven't done poetry yet but apparently this website is good: http://leavingcertenglish.net/ I've never used it but have heard good things, maybe he should have a look :)

    Haven't done poetry yet.

Don't drop to Ordinary. What happens if he finds it easy and obtains a grasp in English later on? He won't be able to go back up, because the higher requires more material and work. Dropping is easy, but going back up is hard.

Get him to stick to it, or he has just wasted 40 points on the CAO.

Only drop when you have bulk of the stuff covered and are risk at failing higher.

Can't remember the correct answer for third.
The answer to 4 is 21
    Can't remember 5
    6 is right.
You got at least three right, I have a feeling you might have got 3 and 5 right, i will check the answers in school tomorrow

I'm positive they're alright except (4 could have been 21 I'm not sure... But 5/6 is impressive well done

Anybody here for TCD Open day or RCSI Open Day? They'll be really good I think. RCSI's generally are really hands on.

Engineering... Science... And psychology would be the main departments I'd head for, although I'd probably visit the Immunology aswell because I know a few people and hopefully they remember me :p.

    How about you?

Medicine, Psychology, Law and maybe pop in to the Computer Sci one too if its free. I want to do the general tours too. They should be fun!

It's going to be CRAZY though. DCU was packed like crazy... Imagine trinity... Especially since it's smaller!

I'm going to go there early or whatever for sure.

You never visited the university before?

What's good about the course in UCD? That place looks so bland to me.

The modules it covers just look so good. It looks like an amazing course, especially if your going into research science. The same could be said for human genetics but that is specialised to one area where as the ucd course is so open

Wouldn't you just do general science in TCD instead? It covers practically everything and you can specialise in genetics which contain some human and plant modules.

That's like my third choice right now

I love Trinity. It seems like such a nice place, mind there can be a bit of a snobby aspect to it. But I think you just need to find your own clique

I don't see the snobby aspect. I don't understand when people say that. I've been there many times and talked to a lot of people, they don't seem snobby or posh.

I'm not a posh person, just someone getting by in life in an average school and area.

Science in TCD is my first choice... So is engineering :(
