Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Great save Mignolet. Not convincing defending though.

That's that, surely Southampton can't muster up another chance?

    Get Kolo on

Has Mignolet saved us first day again?

No, sure he's useless and a liability.

Should have been a free anyway as long pushed Johnson before the header.

This game is nerve wracking, good to see not much has changed since last season!

Wasn't given though, so he should have scored.

Good game, Southampton will prove a difficult opponent for most teams this season.

    THAT'LL DO NICELY !!!

    2 - 1 FT

Serious work to be done though.

    Lucky. But I'll take it.

Lovren is looking worth every penny. Think Lucas was a mistake, can't play him with Gerrard.

Tough tough match for Liverpool, good 3 points.

3 points more already from last season ;)

Poor shifts from Gerrard, Lucas and Johnson. Each of them look mentally and physically wrecked. Gerrard needs a break, Lucas and Johnson should be sold.

Cant point the finger at Sturridge with no supply really, Coutinho was closed down and had no space.

Allen helped when he came on but even then Soton dominated possession. Midfield was very very poor.

Yay :D Nice 3 points but it wasn't easy by any means, we lacked structure towards the end..

    ****ing blessed!

We were so poor though. Huge couple of weeks coming up.

Enjoyable game. Southampton looked great. Liverpool made to work but surely can only get better you'd imagine.

And now to watch Newcastle roll over for Manchester City. :(

Dismal performance. We're screwed if this is a sign of things to come. Only positive, Lovren. He will prove to be our best signing.

Enjoyable to watch anyway. Quality finishing the big difference.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,194 ✭✭✭osnola ibax

Well that was ****, we'llplay worse teams than that at anfield, had no control over the game whatsoever, 70% possession to the saints for the ten mins after we scored, Jesus I hope we get better then that

    3 pts is a negative?

That was a nervy win but it's a win.

Lack of possession was the worry for me but I'm hoping that improves as season progresses.

Last season we barely beat Stoke and then kicked on.

Fair play to Southampton though. Played very well and will cause other teams problems.

2-1 Liverpool, Soton to give a good display. Nervy last 10 minutes.

We played worse at home to Southampton last season, that was a few games in!

Takes teams time to get into their stride, sure we only beat 3 poor teams in Stoke, Villa and Utd 1-0 in our first 3 games last season ;)

    Positives:

    Scored 2 goals

Heads did not drop after conceding

    Mignolet had good saves.

    Sterling performance.

    Could go on and on.

3 points and result the important thing.

Henderson and Sterling played well, Skrtel was good and looked like a good partner for Lovren. Manquillo was mixed but showed some potential.

Lucas and Gerrard were really poor, Johnson was beyond poor.

Whilst they all count, first game of the season is never a true indicator of anything. Flashes of greatness but overall not a great performance. Further proof that we need something more from this transfer window.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,056 ✭✭✭SuperTortoise

I don't think it was a problem with players today(Johnson/Lucas aside) playing 2 DM's just left a huge gap in the middle of the park, that was our biggest problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,406 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

And **** like that is why Robbie Keane is ahead of Long in the pecking order.

    Good result, happy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,369 ✭✭✭the incredible pudding

Allen made a difference when he came on I thought, he pressed very well up the pitch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,594 ✭✭✭kingshankly

Thought Henderson had a terrific match
Gerrard Lucas Sturridge and Johnson very poor

I thought the heads did drop tbh, we were a shambles after Soton equalised and they could have easily put us to the sword before fortune shone kindly on us.

I always said that 3 pts was all I wanted from this game regardless of how it was achieved, but that performance has me worried. We looked absolutely clueless in the 2nd half and at times Soton seemed to have twice the amount of players on the pitch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,395 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Not a great performance to say the least but Liverpool will improve. Southampton will be fine. As always they seem to produce good young players to replace the ones they sell. Should be safe in mid-table.
