Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can wasn't great against Dortmund was a bit out of position at times.. Lucas since his poor performance against Preston has played well in pre-season.

just hope that first game syndrome doesn't bite too hard and that liverpool get off to a winning start. really looking forward to seeing Lovren command the defence.

Lucas was non existent against Southampton last year, hopefully it's not the same today.

    Can't wait for this

Hoping Sterling, Cout & Sturridge can carry in their form. I'm confident given the players Southampton have left go, I also feel more comfortable with our defence after seeing Lovern there for one game....I'm not sure what to make of that myself even but hopefully we're solid throughout and menacing up front which is what we have come to expect but seldom got with some wild stuff at the back at times!

Can't wait to see if it's a return to heart attack season! :pac:

I was Lucas biggest fan and while i think his poor form has been exagerated by some I don't think he has got to the level he was pre injury.

If the opertunity is there to replace Lucas with Songbit be a no brainer for me as i think song is more suited to playing along alongside gerrard l

    2-1 to Southampton.

Skrtel own goal and a last minute winner from Shane Long.

Would rather see Allen in for Can than Lucas. But would probably have started Can.

Liverpool to score twice in the first half, concede between 45 - 60, arse to the wall until 75, when we get a breakaway goal, a fourth then to finish it, a flattering 4-1 win

Very interesting. Suggests to me the light at the end of the tunnel for Lucas was the fact he has a future at LFC. Hope he proves everybody wrong.

My first PL game as a poster. Hope to get off to a winning start now and put a bit of early season space between ourselves and United.

If Lucas starts I'd actually prefer him in the holding role and Gerrard on the side of the diamond. Lucas has looked totally out of sorts when he has had to play the latter role.

Or is it a 4-3-3 with Gerrard and Lucas as the 2 in a 2-1 midfield three?

When assessing Emre Cans fitness, they always ask:

    can Can can-can?

The answer in this case was no.

    *ignores real pronunciation*

Why is Lucas in ahead of Allen?

**** knows , probably the least impressive midfielder in pre season, i still expect his game time to be limited with can and allen here. Today maybe just a one off?

Glen Johnson playing at left back? Uninspiring.

One hour left! Not so sure about Johno but maybe BR is hoping someone will take him before the transfer window closes?

    Form I'd imagine.

    I see the formation as a 4-4-1-1.

Henderson wide right, Sterling wide left and Coutinho behind Sturridge. Lucas and Gerrard holding in midfield. Lucas covering for Sterling as he pushes forward.

Not very unhappy about Lucas in the team, this game might be slightly too soon for Can. Lucas will inevitably get booked and be hauled off at some stage though, hopefully giving Can 30 minutes

I thought Lucas was good in pre-season. Obviously Rodgers feels the same. Can still has a way to go, Allen didn't really put his hands up for a starting place.

    Lads, Lucas isn't that bad.

He gives away a lot of extremely dangerous free kicks, and I'm pacier than him

    Lads, Lucas isn't that bad.

    True he's not that bad.

But both himself and Gerrard lack legs and most would have thought that Can or Allen were better options instead of Lucas.

Allen would have given us energy, Lucas will give us SFA!

Allen was very good in the last few games of last season!

Coutinho and Sterling to really shine today!

I think it has a lot to do with the formation. I see Lucas and Gerrard offering more defensively than Allen or Can alongside Gerrard. This allows Sterling, Henderson, Coutinho and both full backs the opportunity to get forward and still give the centre backs some protection.

Off to do the fastest 30 minutes of house cleaning you have ever seen.

Not only does it keep the woman happy, it also distracts me from this :)
