Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    No Welbeck?

    He's injured.

Surprised with Lingard at RWB, thought Young would be there with James at LWB.

VG obviously felt we needed as much pace at wing back as possible.

Weakest United team in the league I have seen in a while.

XI titular del #mufc contra el Swansea: De Gea; Jones, Smalling, Blackett; Lingard, Fletcher, Herrera, Young; Mata; Rooney (c), Hernandez.

A nice bit to be done in the transfer window yet.

Is Blackett only in the team because of injuries, or has he shown any kind of form over pre-season. He was atrocious any time I saw him last season for Birmingham.

Swansea XI: Fabianski, Rangel, Amat, Williams (C), Taylor, Ki, Shelvey, Dyer, Sigurdsson, Routledge, Bony

No cleverley in the line up or the bench. Thank f*ck!

    2-0 United

Lingard, that's a bit of a curveball thrown in there. Can't wait to see how the young players perform.

    Prob best defender in pre-season

I've heard this comment every season for the last 20 years.

    it's true this time but.

that's a disgraceful XI for any Manchester United manager to have to pick on the opening day of a season.

At least when Ferguson had the "fledgelings", but that was his own doing, this is different.

He plays on midfield I thought

    Column A, Column B.

There's no denying he got his chance on the back of injuries, but he's been good in the pre-season. Him, Jones and Smalling only conceeded (iirc) 5 goals in pre-season; three were penalties, one was a shot from the halfway line and one was cause Cleverly basically assisted the other team. Well deserves a chance for the debut today.

BT must have to the two most boring voices in football now with Scholes and Owen.

Scholes in less than an hour has said "it's very difficult to say & draw a line through it" about a dozen times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,902 ✭✭✭MagicIRL

Think IF Swansea are to score, it'll come against Lingard.

Keeps contradicting himself too. BT's coverage is just dire.

    2-1 United.

I don't think it will be the gauntlet laying start we're all hoping for but I'd fancy our attack to cause too any problems for Swansea in the end.

    LVG. What a genius

Utd to win but fancy Bony to score for Swansea.

Stuck a wager on Hernandez first goal at 9/2,thought it was a big price.

Why is lingard playing? Did he even start in pre-season?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,419 ✭✭✭Fescue

That's not a bad Swansea team at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

Did Van Gaal press 'randomise' on his team selection today?

I completely forgot that Gomis signed for Swansea. Not a bad option to have coming off the bench.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

The confidence and assuredness of Van Gaal compared to Moyes is so evident from the interviews alone

"Do what we agreed and we will win"

I wonder if Moyes ever felt that degree of confidence in his gameplans?

And that must transmit to the players

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,177 ✭✭✭TheTownie

Ha. Looks like Moyes is doing punditry on the match today.

Injuries are decimating the team already. It's the price you pay for leaving a squad thin on numbers in certain areas.
Hopefully the young lads can step up.

Yeah, I thought as such. Wouldn't really know much of Man United's squad depth so it looked a bit strange to me.
