Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No improvement from last season based on this game. Same old problems for Utd, midfield and defense very average

I can understand leaving in added time to beat the rush out of the stadium but leaving in the 83rd minute is ridiculous.

cant understand where all the optimism came from from the man united supporters , they never really replaced there defense, there midfield is very soft also , could be another very long season for them, swansea dont look too great themselves

Terrible non stop crossing into the box, this is poor football

So this isn't any better then last season's performances that'd I saw.

Early days but I expected some spark from United, instead nothing tbh.

Very surprising and worrying for United fans.

    Congrats Swansea.

I must confess I'm starting to warm to the genius of Louis Van Gaal. That was a tactical masterclass.

People were saying Moyes was a poor manager so blamed it on him, then they got a decent manager and people thought it'd be like having Fergie all over again, doesn't look like that at all though now though. The players aren't good enough, that's a fact.

So after all the optimism surrounding LVG during pre-season, it's back to 4 at the back and launching it long to Fellaini.

Did he bring a 2nd keeper on near the end to try nick it? :-)

People saying Swansea will win need to take a long hard look in the mirror. We're f*cked with injuries at the minute but we will come through these opening few games with wins. The fixture list has been kind to us this year.

I predict a scrappy 2-1 with Swansea really putting it up to us. Herrera and a revitalised Fletcher should ensure we aren't played off the pitch like the FA cup game last January.

Unlucky not to equalise despite Mike Dean's best efforts. ;)

If United go into September without adding real quality to their defence, they'll be out of the Champions League chase by January.

Your John Giles level of punditry in this thread has been a joy to behold.

At no point last year was launching balls to Fellaini ever a tactic.

Amazing united break another record, first time they have lost an opening game since 1972!

    Fooking rubbish .... again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,304 ✭✭✭madcabbage

A blip on day one. Nothing to panic about. One thing is for sure, they will need to sign defenders. That & another CM because Fletcher just doesn't cut it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭miralize

I think the problem with Matas game was that both Herrera & Fletcher weren't able to find space to receive the ball and then turn to get it to Mata. The CB's only ever passed it to the WB's & very slowly too

I seen it again and it was ball to hand. The guy turned himself the other bloody way with his arm down by his side and the ball hit it. Nothing he could do!

I knew not getting rid of Moyes in the summer would be a bad mistake.

    Oh wait...

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Same problems vas last season for Man Utd. Lacking creativity in the center, and still a real dearth in quality in the wide positions. Hernandez being entirely ineffective also let down the 3-5-2. At the back its a shambles, granted there are a few injuries but even when those players were fit last season they weren't much of an upgrade on what we saw today.
