Anybody know anywhere in Dublin that buys gold at a good price? Also any idea around what 25/26g of 14k should be worth minimum?

Actual value at $1,300 an ounce for 14k gold- @ 25grms works out at 400-420 Euro. This is the wholesale purchase price. Retail will be significantly lower than this- perhaps around 250 Euro.

In general retail gold traders will insist on a minimum of a 30% discount on the bullion value of the gold being sold- some of them will insist on even more.

As a general rule of thumb- jewelers or pawn brokers tend to offer better rates than do websites (and you don't have to go to the trouble of registering them to the gold traders).

Some outlets have notoriously bad deals- an Irish Independent survey found 'Cash Encounters' in Naas, Co. Kildare had the worst price for gold anywhere in the entire country. The same survey used Sean McManus jewelers in Dunlaoghaire as a good decent yard-stick for valuing gold- it might be an idea to give them a ring (if you'll excuse the pun).

Link to the Irish Indo article here: http://www.independent.ie/business/personal-finance/latest-news/cashforgold-outlets-vary-by-up-to-60pc-in-prices-they-offer-for-valuables-26791953.html

Bedra on Francis St. or NTR Metals in Dublin 4.

Based on yesterdays prices they will give you ~€460. You'll need to ring first, you can't just walk in.

Works out at €865 by my calculations ..... so €460 from a dealer sounds about right.

That really is a 'how long is a piece of string' type question.
Ideally you'd get somewhere between 300 and 400 Euro- based on the bullion value of the gold less 30+% (the bullion discount at retail is a minimum of 30%- some places will charge 50 or even 60%)

All any of us can really tell you- is shop around. It appears jewellers shops may offer a slightly better price- but you will need to shop around.

Bring photographic ID with you when you're getting quotations etc- it will be requested.

if you wish to get the best price theen the link above is your best bet, if you want less money then walk in, most of the shops that you sell do end up selling to the likes of hatton garden metals, you weigh and calcculate your self, mail by reg post, get paid into paypal the same day, or travel over by plane, visit hatton garden, look at the prices displaayed on various windows, sell and fly home, you wouls be over and back by the time you yould be finished rambling around dublin with a pocket full od gold, then your cances of being seen and followed taken into consideration.

You can sell at Merrion Gold which is located in Merrion Vaults, the Safe Deposit Box company. I bought Kruggerands there recently.

One of the best places to check the price of gold is Kitco(.)com. At the bottom of the home page they have the current price in all currencies. If you think thats too much information you can check out the World Gold Councils website (gold(.)org) - the current pricing is on the right hand side. I've noticed recently that one of the Irish Dealers (National Gold and Silver) has added the current price of gold in Euros to their home page [nationalgold(.)ie] - This is handy for checking the current euro price.
