Give him a gentle scratch behind the ears and under his chin from all of us, please - we can't reach to do it ourselves...

His paws will probably look smaller when he grows up a bit and begins to be able to withdraw his claws. Otherwise, it's a tiger, not a kitty!

lol.He was keeping me awake at night. So I wanted to find who own him or where was he .The plan wasnt to keep him just find him so I could get some sleep.Little did I know. After calling to houses trying to find him.I was told by several of the neighbors that a lady feeds quite a few of the feral cats but thats it,none of them are neutered so year in year out they breed. An elderly man I called to said his dog and eaten two of them and he wanted nothing more to do with the cats. Then I stumbled across this poor fella and his dead siblings. Its dinner time again, hes getting so demanding:)

If its not the kitten trying the scatch my eyes out during the night for a feed, its you lot looking for up dates:)

Just had a feed there. The feeding times weren't as regimented as during the day had a feed at half 2,5 and 8 but they all went great.Well over 5ml each and all from the bottle.I woke up to him kneading my face/eye at 5 this morning which incredibly sore.I would have like to have seen my face.I could feel my grumpy frown face looking down at him in disgust. It was much to early for claws in the eye.

    snooze time now

Well done damagegt, delighted for you for all the effort, worry & hard work you have put into saving this little guys life.

So happy for the kitten too to have found someone like like. Another hour or two and he could have died like his siblings.

This has the making of a movie, the cry in the night, the recuse, the will he won't he make it, the start of a wonderful relationship between finder and kitten, all the outsiders wishing them well and those in the know advising on feeding and survival. Love it!!!!

This is my favourite thread ever!!!!

You've a friend for life there!

Exactly what I needed to hear first thing in the morning :D

Well done OP, we're all rooting for ya! And, if you need anything at all, I'm sure I'm speaking for everyone here when I say just ask. We'd love an excuse to visit the lil bundle of fluff :P

Just back from visiting damagegt. The Kitten is looking well

    muscle-cat.jpg

    Just kidding

damagegt: you should set up a donation for the vets to be on the safe side after all its looking more like a boardie kitten.

When the kitten is fit and strong you can donate the rest to either an animal charity or SSF

    I will donate no problem

    +1

We know that you can't afford the vet easily and you've already seen that people are willing to donate towards boardsie's (I've picked a name and I'm keeping it!) care so let us help! You deserve it as much as him for all the work that you've put in already.

I'd have no problem throwing a couple of quid your way OP. Kitteh will be needing his shots in a few weeks anyway, you might as well start gathering funds now- I think we're all unanimously delighted that you're taking such good care of the little guy. Too often on this forum there are stories of the opposite nature!

You are taking such good care of the little dude - he/she will have it made after a rocky start in life. Say hello to your new overlord ☺

Thanks guys for the offer but there is no need.I got hold of my vet nurse friend who put me in contact with the vet she works for.Shes calling down later today to check him and see if I need to head to the vet and if not shes booking him in for shots/worming and what not.

Hes flying though his bottles now.I was making 10ml bottles and getting 1 and a bit feeds out of them but since this morning iv jumped to 20ml.He seems to want to feed more as in more then the 3hr intervals.Should I just feed him when hes hungry or stick to the times ?

Hes gaining weight fast I can feel the difference when I lift him.Ill get some more pictures and maybe a quick video he soon.

He's a growing kitty, I'd say feed him when he's hungry - when he's not, he won't look for food. It's possible that he may have worms, but I can't remember how old they have to be before you can deworm them - I'm sure the vet will tell you all that you need to know. <-- as you said...

Great to hear he's now thriving, and that you found a more sympathetic vet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,965 ✭✭✭jimf

I can honestly say you are a person in a million

you will be rewarded somewhere/sometime believe me

So glad to hear he's doing well! It's put a spring in my step for the day :D

Try stick to the feeding times for the moment as he's still small. As he gets bigger he'll be able to take larger feeds less frequently. He's not starving or anything as he's been eating so well but it'll be good for him to feel hunger!

I knew when I was ringing that vet.Hes most certainty not a small animal vet, more of an old school farm vet.
I had to put down my dog of 17 years and I went to him.Now the dog had most defiantly had a stroke/heat attack before I went to him.He examined her and asked me was she in heat ? I just looked at him.
When she was about 2 she had to get a hysterectomy and the vet that stitched her done it wrong and they broke. Her insides literally fell out on the ground.I had to turn her on her back and put them back in.

Anyway she was left with the biggest most hideous scare on her stomach and this clown asks is the 17 year old, dying, wombless dog in heat!
I should have known what response I got of him before I rang.

I know how you feel on that one damagegt, the same thing happened when I had one of my cats neutered, in our case it was the cat who got at the stitches and removed them herself but I can still feel that moment of horrified realisation! Your kitten is outside the scope of that vet's general experience so it doesn't make him bad or uncaring, just pretty clueless and out of date. I'm glad that you have a new vet in the mix and your friend will make the medical visits pretty painless from now on. Well done, I'm so glad that it's working out for you. I feel a bit sad for the old dear who feeds the ferals, feeding may be as much as she can afford but she probably can't bear the thought of them starving. TNR programmes are simply wonderful but they can still be beyond the capability of some people. Anyway, good luck with the care.........you will REALLY hate the thought of going back to work now........like a Mum on little kid's first day of school, it's impossible to part with them! :)

Fair enough, but if I don't know something I'd be honest about it even if it's embarrassing, rather than go around chancing my arm and causing untold damage in the process... Ok, I'll stop giving out now.

You should let Cork Cat Action Trust know about the cats in this old ladies garden, they'll do a Trap/Neuter/Release on them so this doesn't happen again, though I appreciate you have plenty on your plate :)

Also if you need any cat-related stuff in the near future I'd be happy to give you some stuff (Cat litter box, toys, bed etc) I've 2 cats and we ended up with 2 of everything we don't need

Thats my exact feelings about that vets.Hes probably very good at what he does. But on the other hand they are peoples pets, if you have no interest of know how to help then don't bother, recommend someone that will help.I feel then if he does take the job hes just doing it out of pure greed with no thought about the animal or the owner.

As for that lady, word on the street is she might be a tad mad.Doesn't answer the door, shouts and throws things at kids, packs or feral cats.......I'm seeing a pattern here. But I'm sure she means well.

Thanks Cormac. We were wondering how he could call to help her with the cats.As I'm sure you know these things should be threaded lightly.Ill give them a shout and see what they say.Are cats done having kitten for the year or is an 24/7 thing with them ?

As for the stuff,Im building most of it at the moment. :)

This thread is getting awfully strange.Anyway new problem.I think he might be a bit constipated.Three feeds ago he defecated but it was quite dry and just after the last feed there was a small bit "stuck" it came out and went back in.He was doing alot of pushing but not alot going on.I massaged his belly but It didnt help.
I read that you can add a drop of veg/olive/mineral oil to the formula.Would that help ?

Try cooled down boiled water in the bottle and rub his back passage with a cloth and a dab of warm water on it. Do the cloth procedure after every feed or a short while after to get things moving :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,611 ✭✭✭muddypaws

Yeah, its not his belly you need to rub, its further back than that ;) The mother would do this after every feed, stimulating the kitten to go to the toilet, and cleaning it up at the same time.

Reminds of me of that recent BBC program about the zookeeper bring up two baby sumatran tigers, same thing but with rather more dramatic results :)
