KK making more of their goal chances kept them in the game. They were second best for good periods of that game. See no reason why Tipp shouldn't beat them in the replay.

KK taking their chances, and Tipp not taking theirs - two penalties and three other clear chances

Question about penalties. Tipp missed two today, was that because:

    - They were poorly taken (looked like the first one was scuffed a bit?)
    - Great saves
    - Penalties are really difficult to score given there's a keeper and two defenders and they're watching the distance it's taken from

I'd say it was mainly those two.

It was because of a great Corkman called Anthony Nash :pac:

They need to reconsider the penalty rule change. It seems to be of no advantage to the attacking team whatsoever, its looks impossible to score a penalty these days unless its sweetly hit

First one was poorly taken, ended up hitting it into the ground. Second one was a decent save by Murphy - got his body behind it. Could have been struck better though

The reason I ask is, I didn't see today what advantage Tipp got from the penalties. To me it seems now they are crazy difficult to get a goal from and almost are advantageous to the defending team.

From that far out it will need to be an absolute smasher of a hit to beat 3 men in the goal surely?

yeah, favours the defence now and rewards cynical play but shure atleast we don't need a hearse waiting outside now to clear the dead from the field

Yes I agree. if you look at my original post I said it shouldn't be moved.

What I said was that the LGFA final should never have been scheduled for a Sunday in September in the first place

That was the bit I disagreed on. They have there day finals set for Sundays regardless of it be female or male

But penalties have been scored that way for yonks way before "Nash Free" came about. The problem today was the defenders moving 2 soon and the 1st was not a great penalty

I thought it was really unfair with the penalties.. Tipp have been the big losers with all the messing round with the rules.. They had so many goal chances today though, I cant imagine them getting any where near as many the next day...

And how good was Richie Hogan.. The man is amazing..

Great credit to the Tip forwards in the last 10 mins. They put serious pressure on kk and robbed them 3 times when they had possession and scored 2 points.

They're actually discussing my question on the Sunday game now! :D

Proposed getting rid of the defenders on the line.

I Thought the defenders had to stay on the line for a penalty too but everybody watching the freetaker

Players need to leather the sliotar right under the cross bar these days to score them. They should review the rule on penalties. 21s should remain as they are

Bit of a cheap shot really. 6 games reffed, 2 kk wins...1 draw...3 losses. Don't think he is doing kk any favours by bringing it up.

As a Tipp person, I felt Tipp got the rub of the green, but he did contribute to a fantastic match. Eddie wrecking my head. Donal Og is great

A cheap shot. He brought up some statistics and then tried to weasel out of his implications.

maybe, but its not like ye got a lash of scores from frees from him. no ref is perfect and he contributed to a great game. eddie brennans comments were abit odd alright. no doubt some former players will be out in the next few wekks highlighting Kellys mistakes

Yeah Barry Kelly is a one man wrecking ball against the Kilkenny and Cody menace and Eddie Brennan was entirely justified calling his integrity into question on national TV with statistics that conclusively prove his case

How is Walter Walsh still on the panel? A one hit wonder is all he is, and a passenger now. He will be dropped to the bench the next day.
Think Tommy Walsh's days are up too. Strange seeing a AI final with KK and he not playing.

Interestingly enough, I think it was Tj Reid who saved it.

Anyone know why he is used as one of the two players for penalties..quicker reflexes maybe? I thought he was the best hurler on the pitch today, only Lar and maybe Power and Hogan rivalled him for moments of individual brilliance. Technically on a different level, just lacks blistering pace.

It seemed to me that woodlock put in some display for tipp, did a lot of hard graft in winning balls. Did'nt see much of it on the sunday game though

i would agree with him , maybe not as much today ,but last year anyone who saw the replay between dublin and kilkenny would have to ask the same qustion, and the double heder in last years 1/4 final i could'nt believe the screw job he was doing on kilkenny against cork , i am sure loads of people will disagree but he reminds me of the under 12 referee who punish's one team constantly for protesting

TJ and Richie have experience of playing on goal.

(edit : but if you hit them over the head hard enough with it, you'll bate them eventually :pac: )

Well folks. What can i say about that epic today. Just not enough superlatives to describe it.

09 and 10 were absolutely top drawer games but today absolutely blew it out of the water. It would have been very harsh on either team to lose it. Both showed such tremendous heart and there is little between the two teams.

Some superb performances, Richie Hogan, Bubbles, Eoin Murphy, Tj Reid, Eoin Larkin, James Barry, Lar Corbett,

Kilkenny fans mightn't agree but i thought the ref done a decent job today. With 53 scores it cannot be argued that he let it flow. Yes he missed one or two calls for both sides but his umpires let him down a bit as Donal Og suggested and he done the best he could given the intense nature of the game.

Bring on the replay now in 3 weeks :)

You are right there. He gave a penalty where the player who committed the foul wasn't even in the penalty area after the foul.

And what was the outcome? Instead of a 21 which would've been knocked over, Tipp went for goal and missed, swinging the momentum back to Kk... if anything the 2 bad penalty calls served Kk better than Tipp. (Neutral here, who won money on the draw. Just saying!)

They also showed on the Sunday Game, some KK player kicking someone just before Reids goal, so obviously there should have been a free out. These things usually balance themselves out unless the ref had a shocker, and he didn't have one.

The outcome doesn't determine the correctness of the decision.

Only when Kilkenny are victim to a referee who gave one if not two penalties in error, chickened out of awarding a blatant red card for dragging a player to the ground by the face mask, and called an absolutely scandalous free against Kilkenny to potentially cost them the All-Ireland could you have people claming the ref had a good game.

He consulted with his umpires first though i suppose. He didnt just make his mind up on a whim. Yes it was outside the rectangle to be fair. They are never easy to call

Just out of interest, does anyone know what happens to the respective hotel functions that the winning team and losing team are due to attend tonight?
I mean, presumably huge amounts of food have been ordered in, extra catering and service staff have been employed and hotel rooms have been booked. So, what exactly happens now?

The players and all associated are hungry, I'm sure, and should proceed to eat it.
