If it helps him get his fitness up quicker I'm all for it, he's our best CB and we need him back playing in the league sooner rather than later.

Edit: Not to mention he has an awesome left foot for a supposedly right-footed player.

I'm only concerned regarding injuries! As we All know, not exactly flush at the back right now!!

That's true, but we can't go in and wrap them all in bubble wrap, we need him back pretty quick. Granted there's a fine line; in order to get them fit they need games, but of course with games there's a greater risk of injury, but that's a risk we may just have to take given our lack of options.

DI Maria is great signing for united. Hopefully this signing will attract more players to united. But united need to buy defensive midfielders and defenders.

There certainly are, but there has been a rash of injuries over those two games on top of Rio, Evra, Giggs and Vidic being gone. Moyes took a team that Ferguson got 8 points from two years running (though yeah, he did get them to perform beyond their level) and was on pace for something like 62 pints, having lost nobody of note.

Moyes didn't get a great team, but he got one worth a sh*te side more than 60-odd points, failed to improve on it partly due to Woodward getting used to things but in large part due to his Fellaini/Baines tunnel vision, and left the team alienated, demoralised and severely lacking in confidence and belief in a way that we arguably had not seen in decades.

He was out of his depth and it showed he had no place at the top level (he is a good midtable manager, mind). It just annoys the hell out of me that for or 10 months now, any time anything to do with the club is mentioned, it is followed with constant excuses for Moyes, typically from pundits and journalists who would be in the correct demographic to be seen as his peer group.

    Bah, rant over!

You're entitled to your view. Can't do that debate anymore.

    Another player injured?

I don't know what the medical staff would have to say about it but it might be worth laminating our players or injecting them with that resin they use to preserve wood.

He was in his own box and passed it to an attacker 5 yards away while looking at him. Being injured for a while doesn't excuse that kind of lack of concentration.

I just said his mistake was terrible. When did I excuse that?

Your exaggerating by stating you want him gone because of it.

I hope we see the back of this 3412 formation soon.
We need a lot more practise at it and can't afford to do this in competitive games so if we don't see it again till next pre season I'll be happy.

When we defend there should be a line of 4 then one of the full backs needs to come inside and press with the other two midfielders, having 2 men chasing ghosts while the other 5 are in a static line is pointless, and the other team are able to pick holes which will definitely be there when you consider the players we have Evans, Jones, Smalling

I think the players are finding it hard to understand or just aren't good enough to do the job

I wonder if Van Gaal will start afresh with 433 if we lose tonight, we need to get a midfielder in during the next few days, we will miss out on top 4 without one IMO

Said it before re:Hernandez - just a terrible, woeful player, utterly out of his depth at the top level who went through the luckiest spell imaginable for a few months before reverting to the drain he so clearly is.

Will prob score in the second half to spite me, but man alive he is the pits.

People who have him ahead of Welbeck are maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

If someone told me three years ago that United would end up struggling in the league, than I'd have to say you were bonkers. It's very much early days yet, but those who pointed the finger at David Moyes rather than the players were barking mad. Moyes was just unlucky. Van Gaal must be absolutely bricking it. This is more than needing reinforcements. What in the name has gotten into the team?

Wait until there's actually some semblance of a starting 11 to criticise.

Lack of quality. Was saying it earlier, too many jokers in the deck.

I have never came across a footballer only suited to play the last 15mins of a game. Step up Chico, was he always this useless outside the box and linking up play etc?

The united bench is the same as it was under Fergie. We never played even close to this bad under Fergie.

Blue in face saying it, poacher yes and most defiantly effective..when he comes off the bench.

His link up play is just awful.

Why are people surprised? This is what happens when you barely play a footballer for four years. They regress.

Hernandez was a better player before he came to United. If he had any sense, he would have left years ago. Too late now.

No, MK Dons will be derided for not killing the game off despite being the better side.

I am not sure the system is going to work out you know, there has been no change yet, the back 5 are awful tactically, the midfield have no hope when they are expected to cover the entire width of the pitch and they have 3 or 4 players moving and passing around them

The wing backs are not doing what wing backs should be doing. Ball retention is pretty awful, the players look like they have no hunger, I don't understand that tonight, I didn't understand it v Sunderland.

At this point you should be seeing some more cohesion tactically from the 532, it has been used since the beginning of pre season, if the players are not there to use the system properly it needs to be dumped, LvG sees them everyday in training and in these matches, he is no fool so I am confused as to why its the same every game.

We played our best competitive football so far this season with a 433, we have the players for that, it leaves the headache with Rooney and RvP but for the good of the team a decision needs to be made soon regarding formation and tactics. I would like to have a functioning system by the end of september, may be the 532 but I would have thought there would have been more progress with it by now.

    Good post.

I too would like to see a consistency in system, but is there really a need to have three centre backs against a third tier team? They only have one up front most of the time.

It's frightening to think Evans is our most experienced defender.

Hernandez is a woeful all round player.

Starting him in the 2011 Champions League final was a huge mistake by Fergie.

If he can be used as a makeweight in the deal to bring Vidal to United (i.e. of Juventus can be hoodwinked into taking him), Woodward should drive him to Turin personally.

Di Maria letter to RM fans -
Dear Real Madrid fans, My time at Real Madrid has come to an end. It is impossible to capture all that I have lived here in just a few lines but this letter is to explain to you my feelings at this time of parting. In the four year that I have had the honour of wearing the shirt I have felt nothing but pride for everything that has occurred and that I have achieved together with my team mates. Sadly the time has come for me to leave, but I would like to make it clear that it was never my wish. Like every person that works, I have always wanted to progress. After winning the tenth Champions League I went to the World Cup with the hopes of receiving a gesture from the board, something that never arrived. Much has been said and many lies have been told. There has been a desire all along to attribute to me a desire to leave the club, something that has never been the case. Unfortunately it would seem I am not the type of footballer that appeals to one person in particular. The only things I ever asked for is what I considered to be just and fair. There are many things that I value and many of them have nothing to do with my salary. I hope to find them at Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world and one with which I hope I can make history. I have had the good fortune to share a dressing room with some fantastic players who have been even more fantastic as companions. I believe that this was the key to winning the ‘decima’. I would like to apologise for the times that I made mistakes, both on and off the pitch. It was never my intention to harm anyone. I have sweated in this shirt playing every game as if it was my last. Sometimes things went well for me and other times they didn’t, but one thing I can assure you is that I always gave everything. I want to thank Spain for everything it has given me and especially for allowing my daughter to be born in this country. And especially to the people at the Monteprincipe hospital that will always have a special place in my heart. My wife, my daughter and myself will always be eternally grateful. Also to my colleagues that always gave me their support, through good and bad times, and to the various technical members of staff that I worked with and to all those people I worked with at the club on a day to day basis and with who I will always maintain a great relationship. I hope Real Madrid have a great season and achieve all the targets that this club always aims for. I will never forget the enormous show of affection shown to me when I came onto the pitch at the Bernabeu for the recent Supercopa match. Thinking about it still gives me goose bumps. I could not imagine a better farewell for what would unfortunately turn out to be my final game. Hala Madrid, and until forever. Angel di Maria

I don't mean to be alarmist, but...

We lost to Swansea at Old Trafford and were woeful.

We drew at Sunderland and were woeful.

We're on the verge of losing to MK Dons and have been woeful.

If we lose to Burnley in a similarly insipid fashion, at which point do the fans turn on Van Gaal? I'm not being funny - This cannot go on forever. Are we looking at a Scolari scenario?
