I'd be surprised if even one of the players you mentioned signed, I just don't see it happening. Hope I'm wrong of course..

Well it looks like Rojo is a done deal.

    Rojo on Argentine radio:

"It feels like a dream, to be a Manchester United player.
Leaving Sporting wasn't easy. I have always liked English football, I'll have to
adapt quickly to the playing style."

Good to finally get the right type of defender in. If we could now get blind and Di Maria it would actually be a good window.

Where are these quotes coming from?

Where are these quotes coming from?
Sky sports are reporting them from an interview Rojo did with an argentine radio station.

    Oh really?

Rojo just followed Cuadrado on Instagram.

    CuadradON.

He also liked a picture of himself and DiMaria hugging in front of a Man United crest :O

    Agent Rojo quickly to work.

I still dint believe rojo is done.

War him off to bayern now and Anderson gets converted into a defender and clev is the second coming of cantona but twice as arrogant.

We realistically need to sign a CM on top of the other targets (Blind and Di Maria).

Read the radio station report last night, it also said Nani was going to Sporting.

Not sure if we can. At least there are reports that we are trying for Di Maria and apart from him we are not even linked with anyone.

Maybe a good thing as Rojo signing also came out of nowhere.

I wonder if Rojo hadn't followed the United guys on Instagram, how much would the journalists have known in relation to us. As far as I know, without that, it would have been a random Portuguese contract drama, cause I think last night was the first time we have been actually named by anyone involved....

From what I can gather re Kroos and Fabregas.

    Most likely Kroos favoured Madrid.

LVG okayed the Herrera transfer filling our need for a creative central player.

Fabregas preferred Chelsea this summer or we never went for him because Ander was on his way.

Neither of LVG's systems would accommodate two number 8's so most likely we will add a number 6 to the squad.

There is most likely method to the madness.

I would agree that LVG held up our business at the start of the summer but I would be shocked if he didn't hand Woodward a list after the tour, now it's on him to get players in the door.

This would make me believe we're not in for Di Maria, the press don't have a clue.

2 more left field signings I think and id be shocked if one wasn't Dutch.

Jeez lads i hate to be a bit skeptical here but i'm not liking this whole Rojo talk/deal at all
    I think its heinze 2.0
He's trying to push through a deal by being a hot head and will look to leave in a couple of years to real/Barca/(insert club of choice)
To go on strike to push a deal through and then announce a deal before the club says anything strikes of amateur hour for me.

I can only hope its not going to happen

Would you believe that if he wasn't Argentinian?

If he goes on to be as good as Heinze was for us he'll be a fantastic signing.

Its quite telling the names that, I'm assuming, initially came to you would be very similar to the names that would also initially come to me and even more telling that they're all from roughly 15-20 years ago. I'd also doubt that a few of them would be classed as bargains in their day even if the money seems like peanuts now.

Thought that was a bit strange alright, are there not two British transfer records in that list of "bargains"?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,333 ✭✭✭brinty

fair point i guess but i'm just not sure given the way he's gone about engineering this move
the heinze comparisons are scary i agree
but look at how that went

also the whole 3rd party ownership thing will be tricky to negotiate around and could throw up stumbling blocks

lets just hope this ain't the only poker in the fire ;)

    I'm slightly concerned re Rojo.

Is a guy who refused to train when a move was first mooted the type of character we want at the club?

For me, that and the third party ownership scream "caveat emptor".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,767 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

So what if he leaves in a few years, we can plan for that straight away. He helps us deal with an issue we have now and if nothing else buys us time to target other players in the coming years.

We need players now, no point going for TC level players on the basis that they won't up sticks in a few years.

That, I think, is the problem with Utd. We are wedded to thinking that players must love this club and basically stay their whole career, until we decide they have no use. Then they can leave with our blessings.

If the guy is of the quality that will be wanted and want to leave for Madrid or Barca in a few years United should be delighted tbh.

just on Rojo not training... surely that means he really wants to play for the club and thats the type of passionate player we need right now.

(if they are any good of course)

It also means that in three or four years when he feels like joining Madrid or Barcelona he could pull the same stunt. Not ideal.

    What's not to like???

He can play CB (we dont exactly have loads there right now!!) And cover LB, versatility is always good...

If he does throw a strop and demands a move we will make a profit on him, it would mean that he has proved to be an asset at the top level of the game and we can basically charge them (Madrid especially) a high premium for him....

Signing Rojo is win, all win...

    Long and especially short term

Or you could see it as he wants to play for United so badly he is willing to sever his ties in other places. You don't know the player, wanting it not to happen is ridiculous.

If you told me now he would be playing well enough for Barca/Real to come sniffing in a few years, I would snap your hand off. We need talent in that position ASAP.

Give the lad a chance FFS.

Dream move comes his way, club plays hard ball, move under threat, takes measures into his own hands.
That's the type of individual you want in a football team.

Happy with Rojo signing. Still need another good centre back and another midfielder imo. Di Maria would be awesome but Utd need someone like De Jong imo (who I know isn't on the cards).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,437 ✭✭✭redbaron_99

Rojo can play left side of a back three. Gary Neville was actually talking about this last night. It's a Very specialised role and most centre backs can't play it properly. He highlighted Richard dinner for QPR at the weekend looking very uneasy playing in that particular position.

LVG is picking a specialised player to fit into his system. It will be a very good signing over time.

    More news!
    Sky Sports wrote:
According to reports in Italy, Bayern Munich have pulled out of the race to sign Mehdi Benatia due to Roma's demands for the defender. Roma reportedly want between €30m (£24m) and €35m (£28m) for the Morocco international. Manchester United are now seemingly the only club interested in Benatia, although reports claim the centre-half is hoping Chelsea will make an offer.

Well given woodwards talk during the summer…

It’s like being told you’re going to your debs with Jennifer Lawrence/Scarlett Johanssen/ Kate Upton/ Anna Kendrick and then you end up going with Melissa Mccarthy

IF Rojo finally signs is there really a point to signing Blind, another left back.

Would the money not be better spent on a specific poisition as its CB or CM. Its all well and good having a player who can play X & Y. But we need just X and just Y covered by a higher standard of player who specialize in those positions.

As it "he should shall not be named" playing for the old lady and "that german fella" playing at BD.

Also was that flight from Roma operated by malaysia airlines as it left on Saturday and still hasn't landed:eek:

Blind played as LWB for Netherlands in the WC but from what I read he won player of the year in Dutch league playing as DM.

Blind be a decent signing, very versatile across the back. Seemed like he played centre mid for ajax at the weekend

What I don't get with Blind is, he's said he'd be open to the move, Ajax have said they'd accept a bid, and Woodward has said they've all the money in the world to spend. If LvG actually wants him... what's getting in the way?

So was John O'Shea, so is Smalling and so is Jones.........that's the problem. We need a dedicated player in a dedicated position.

How is it that we are playing Sunderland on Sunday and then MK Dons on Tuesday, only two days between games?

With rojo do we own him 100% now or does that other partner still have a 75% ownership of any deals made with him

100%. You can't have 3rd party ownership in PL.

100% I imagine as the premier league outlawed 3rd party ownerships

Apparently the third party stuff isn't allowed in the Premier League so he'll be 100% Man Utd.
