i do wonder if getting Blind and Herrera into midfield and getting two capable attacking full backs in Rafael and Shaw (along with Di Maria, obviously) will get the ball itself moving into the final third quicker, so negate the problem of RVP and Rooney up top. Is the build up being slow and ponderous the issue rather than their lack of pace - would Rooney being as quick as Ronaldo really have improved the performances that much?

In terms of today, getting moves started was as big a problem as anything. The CBs struggled due to a combination of the terrible midfield in front of them and their own lack of ability on the ball.

Personally I'd rather see players in front of the full backs, i.e a typical 4-3-3. While Rafael and Shaw are good, in a 4-3-1-2, teams will double up on them when they attack and they won't be able to do much to counteract that on their own.

I think to get the best out of Di Maria, Utd need to play him out wide left. Put Mata the most advanced of a midfield three and one of Rooney/RVP up top.

EDIT: If Utd get the ball into the final third quicker, they need to do so via the wings. With Mata/Rooney/RVP on the pitch they would be feeding it through the middle which makes it easier for opposition to snuff out attacks.

Haven't heard anything but it looked like a tweak of the hamstring rather than anything more serious. Couple of weeks would be my uneducated guess.

Maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing to have him out of the team for a game or two to look at alternatives.

Van gaal said it was just cramp and didn't want to push it Sam as do maria

Daniel Taylor says we might not be done yet...
Manchester United are still in the market for a centre-half and another midfielder, even with Daley Blind coming in from Ajax.

Sure just buy a whole new defence while they're at it.

So we can all make guesses as to which CM we're going for. What about a CB? An established name? Maybe a younger guy with potential? The dutch connection thinks Virgil van Dijk could be on the radar.

If they are in for a CB they sure are keeping to quiet. We've barely been linked with any CB's besides the Benatia

He has looked great for Celtic but we know how that can turn out when they make the move South.

Don't need another young guy. Need an older, experienced head.

Twitter talk that Real Madrid are sniffing round Hernandez.

Wow that's great for him but is it worth it? He might only be an impact sub again

    They can have him.

£59 million seems like a fair price.

DiMarzio seems to be the one talking about Hernadez to Real. I can't remember is he super reliable or only a step above Indykilla; think it's the former....

    I'd prefer Varane.

You think Real would take a straight swap of Chico for Varane?

Is it safe to assume both Rojo and Blind will be available for next week?

    International break next week.
Rojo deal may be off, so there's a major doubt about him.

Yeah with their international teams. Ah no should be no issues with Blind but Rojo is another story with his visa and potential 3rd party ownership issues.

No. Just saying I would prefer varane

    I would prefer Ronaldo so

    Kroos as a backup

Ok, ok. Was just saying. Still isn't getting into the first team though, is he?

I wonder is there some doubt over him. Surely he should be able to get ahead of Pepe in the starting eleven.

    There is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,553 ✭✭✭✭Copper_pipe

    There is?

There has been speculation that Rojo has run in to problems over third party ownership – he was part owned by an agency when playing in Portugal – or that he hadn't played enough competitive games for his country to qualify for a work permit.
However it is understood that the actual issue is that Rojo is waiting to see if he will be given a UK visa as embassy officials look in to the details of an altercation with a neighbour in Argentina in 2010 that still lies on his file in his home country.
The 24-year-old was never prosecuted over the incident but it is still theoretically being investigated after the case was reopened in May of this year.
Rojo does not have a criminal record but it is likely that Embassy officials are checking the exact details of the situation before processing the visa.

    There is?

Still hasn't got the work permit. Seems it might have something to do with an outstanding case against him in Argentina. He hit a neighbour with a bottle.

Ah, the daily mail. So there isn't.

    Hang on,

We live in a weird world where Di Maria plays for Manchester United

Where Daily Mail are becoming a good source for United news. Like Blind last night.

They are only saying why there is a delay, not that it will cause an actual problem.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,437 ✭✭✭redbaron_99

I take it the work permit has to be approved before deadline?

No I don't think so, players have moved at the last minute with no time to get a work permit.

We should have done a straight swap with real with Hernandez and Alonso

I'm fairly sure he wouldn't sign for us he seems like one of the few loyal players left in the game and out of respect for pool he would likely turn us down.

I can't bloomin' wait for the QPR game now, hopefully most of these injuries will be sorted by then...
    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Rojo - Shaw
    ---- Herrera - Blind ----
    Januzaj - Mata - DiMaria
    V.Persie --- Rooney

Rafa and Adnan on the right, Shaw and Di Maria on the right...

That would give us a great chance of winning 12 v 11 is a fantastic tactic
