i know he wasnt the only reason for it but if we sign di maria i'm hoping it does for us what ozil did for arsenal. look at them first game hammered by villa at home and then went on an unbelievable run.

once we get everyone fit and if we can add a cm or 2 and another defender no reason to think we should struggle to get top 4. even without the signings if we have a bit of luck with injuries we should be fine

arsenal were poor yesterday and last week and thought liverpool were lucky to beat southampton we shall see how they do tomorrow night against city but would say we should be well able to beat one of them to top 4 and hopefully if we keep a core best 11 fit without europe who knows?

I would easily place him the top 10. And I'm not hyperboling because he's sigining for us. I have watched him the last 2 seasons.

Have a look at the game last week when he came on as a sub in the super cup first leg he was awesome and changed the game for Madrid.

He was on the bench and not coming on due to the transfer stuff and look what happened in the second leg.

Real Madrid are selling arguably there best player.
I actually think it's a really bad move from Madrid this year and they will miss him big time.

Their best player?!? Are you mental? You know Ronaldo plays for them? He's arguably their 2nd best player (him or bale). Could easily make an argument for top 10 but I wouldn't have him quite that high. For me theres a couple of Germans ahead of him along with thiago silva, robben, Ibra, ribery, Suarez, neymar messi and Ronaldo.I'd have him at a very similar level to hazard which is a pretty big compliment. When you get to these kind of figures none of them are worth it (not even Suarez) so it's more about if the player can take a team to the next level. Di Maria certainly can.

The best one in the world (Vidal) is currently recovering from knee injury and LVG's favourite (Strootman) is the same. So it could well be a case of Di Maria now and one of the others in January. That would make a lot of sense if that's the plan they are pursuing.

Is have javi Martinez and schweinsteiger ahead of Vidal but he is amazing. Uniteds lack of champions league prob allows them to follow the above strategy but will jive want to sell vidal in January if they're still in the champions league?!? Would seem mental to me.

Exactly. Newcastle fans didn't want Carroll to go but crazy money us crazy money. It's a good deal for both since united can seemingly afford it and while he's a great player the drop off for real isn't THAT big. It also gives then ffp muscle to buy another superstar next year.

If nothing else it'll make united brilliant to play as in Fifa.

I have the mental image of Van Gaal following Woodward around with a stopwatch.

Nothing would surprise me with van Gaal.

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet but it's a brilliant article about van Gaal's career. A very enjoyable read.

    http://s.telegraph.co.uk/graphics/projects/the-van-gaal-dossier/#top

It includes a brilliant description of him,

"He has the arrogance of Jose Mourinho, the megalomania of Alex Ferguson, the fanaticism of Pep Guardiola and the manners of Sam Allardyce. By rights he should be one of most revered coaches in history, having created one of the greatest sides in recent history and inspired two more. But nobody’s opinion of him, however high, will ever match up to van Gaal’s opinion of himself."

Javi Martinez ahead of Vidal? A very good player but not at the same level as Vidal and Schweinsteiger.

    That's why I stated arguably.

Here's his stats last season. It's not just his goals it's his assists. And guess who he has assisted the most? A total of 6 for Ronaldo alone.

Di Maria finished last season with 22 assists and topped La Liga alone with 17 – more than double Ronaldos total, and six more than Bale

Javi Martinez is a beast, would have loved him signed when Munich went and got him. He is certainly one of the top midfielders in the world imo. Injuries have harmed his rep maybe?

I never knew Di Maria was so highly rated - seems crazy for them to spend a Bale/Ronaldo amount on him.

Di Maria is world class. I cant wait to see him pull on that famous number 7 shirt. He will open up defences and put defenders on the back foot with his pacy dribbling skills. Anytime I watch him play on the box he reminds me of our own legend Giggs in full flow. I think LVG plans to play him in his most effective position which is as a left central midfielder. We have a frightening front 4 when their all fit. Mata, Rooney, RVP and Di Maria:eek:

Sorry I just don't think it's even an argument that di Maria is as good as Ronaldo. Not remotely arguable regardless of the stats you show us.

It's such a shame we don't have Champions League football, we'd be able to get players like Lallana & Lambert.

We'll have to settle for Di Maria.

You're right I'd totally give up champions league football for him. Maybe if you guys miss it next season you'll get messi.

Do Madrid fans (note, fans, not the club hierarchy) give a **** about the transfer fees they receive?

Surely they're conditioned at this point to Madrid spending huge money no matter the circumstances.

Maybe neither Juve nor Roma would be willing to sell in January, or maybe United feel like they could be convinced to.

Or at the very least wait until someone even signs on to gloat. Maybe do it in the transfers thread actually to avoid this one becoming a cluster**** for the few pages after?

    Not gonna happen.

A player doesn't say his goodbyes to the club without having all but signed on the dotted line. Ancelotti says he's off and that while it's not official, it is ''resolved''. That to me means all parties have agreed on fees/add ons etc, everything else is just a formality.

Anyway great news for us if we sign him.

Ancelloti said it at his press conference that Di Maria has said his goodbyes. He didn't mention United though. But it's pretty much accepted as fact that it's happening.
