They need to put an end to random selection, nobody should/shouldn't get into college in a raffle. I'm so so sorry! But that course looks amazing and I'm sure we'll see each other around :)

Indeed there is a Hot Beverages Society! They usually meet once a week in the common room for tea/coffee/hot chocolate and biscuits. They have special/themed events such as Christmas movie nights in the common room as well.

If anyone has any questions about the social side of UCC - Clubs, Socs, SU, Student Services, Peer Support, Cork City in general - fire away and I'll throw up a response! If there's enough people asking questions then I might make a thread. :)

Might sound kind of vague but d'you think you could type up a small list of your favourite places in Cork in general (like cafes, clubs, etc)? I'm all the way from Belgium and I've only visited Cork once before! Checked out Yelp and that helped me see it from a tourist perspective, but living there's probably a different story.

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

Apologies for the delay! Up the walls with work and sorting housing and reports and half a dozen other things before we go back!

For pubs, I'd put down BDSM, Vicarstown Inn and Preachers. They're not typical student pubs, they've got a slightly more mature crowd in terms of behaviour, i.e. they don't have the typical Irish student plan to drink as much as possible as fast as possible!

BDSM/Preachers tend to play music more towards rock and metal than chart.

Vicarstown have some more popular music, but its never too loud. Preachers is 23's I think on busy nights, 21 most other nights!

For student pubs, your looking at the Bailey, the Washington Inn (the Wash), Bob Fox's to name a few. Typical student pubs, drinks deals, you'll probably end up in them!

The Rock is the closest pub to college excluding the bars on campus, and there are usually students in there most nights. Popular trad nights there on wednesdays (i think).

Pubs close at 12pm, some have a special licence to stay open until 2am.

There are many other pubs for many different things, Crane Lane has great music, the Roundy is a nice chill out pub, the Hi-B is for people with a deathwish, the brog is where many people finish their nights, the Old Oak has an older crowd mostly but music is current.

For clubs, most students go to Havana Browns on their student nights, its one of the few clubs left in the city. It's what you'd expect, packed with people, drinks galore, chart/current music.

For restaurants, Rossini's is a lovely Italian restaurant that do some good early bird deals for dinners, definitely a place to try.

The Quay Co-op is a vegetarian/vegan restaurant that has some lovely foods and a nice enough view to watch people going about their business.

Scoozi's used to be a nice place for lunch/dinner, haven't been there in a while so don't know if its changed.

English Market is fantastic for buying some delicious foods. Theres a lovely sandwich stall in there on the corner across from the fish counters. Can't remember the name of it!

Nosh and Coffee can be nice for a tea/coffee/hot drink and a panini with a friend/friends.

That's all I can think of on those 3 things! For places to go, following the river in either direction can land you in some nice spots.

At the top of Patrick's Hill theres a field with a view over a lot of the city. I take international students up there from time to time, especially if they're interested in photography!

Generally exploring in Cork can be fun but normal rules apply, don't be stupid. An alley with a group of lads in it who look rough? Don't bother trying it, theres other streets!

Around Ireland then, everything the tour books say is a good idea really! Get your time in Dublin doing the Guinness Storehouse, etc. Visit the Cliffs of Moher, Blarney Castle, Giant's Causeway, Ring of Kerry, Kinsale, Fota, and everywhere else!

You'll have no problem finding people to talk and hang out with! You should make sure to be friendly and open to doing things and actively keeping in touch with people to develop a group fast.

That's all I can brainfart out right now, I was completely bungalowed last night and had about 4 hours of sleep before work! Supervisor didn't even make it in though so I got off with a light day :P

If there's anything specific you want to ask about the above then just shoot! :)
