Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Recommend a QUIET Turbo Trainer

Just wondering if anyone can recommend me a quiet Turbo Trainer? Not fussed whether it's the type that uses magnets & the rear wheel or the type where the rear wheel is removed and there is a cog on the trainer.
Ideally I'd also like to use it with TrainerRoad, but main thing is that it doesn't make a racket.
Nothing OTT on price - but don't mind paying a few quid for a decent one.
    Cheers

You will find that nearly every turbo trainer will make noise. It is the nature of the device and something you cannot avoid. What type of budget do you have to spend?

Don't mind spending a few hundred on it. I'd just like to keep the noise to a minimum more than anything

There is a world of difference in the noise between different trainers. You don't want a magnetic one if you don't want noise. Fluid ones are quieter.

I believe that one where the chain connects directly to the turbo trainer are quietest but I've never used one. I have used this (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-crono-fluid-elastogel-trainer/) and it's reasonable quiet. It is much much quieter than a similarly priced magnetic one (eg. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/tacx-blue-motion-high-power-folding-magnetic-trainer/)

Thanks - reviews on that look really promising. Have you had any issues with it?

Thanks - that's two recommendations for the Elite Crono - I see a pattern emerging!

I have the same model. I haven't had any issues with it but bear in mind that it is a type of turbo whose resistance increases as you go faster instead of having a dial to change resistance. Also, the tyre's resistance to the flywheel changes as you lean forward on the bike. These two things make it difficult to measure your power output, should you want to.

If you don't want to measure your output (or have a powermeter to do that) and just want a straightforward workout it seems like a good piece of kit.

Ok, thanks. I'm hoping to use it with TrainerRoad, which does try and calculate the power output, but their site says this model is supported so I assume they take this in to consideration. Other than that, no real plans to measure power output

None at all, probably have 3 or 4k kms on it and still seems A1. Just burns the hands off you if you forget and lift wrong :D

And end of last September I bought it too from Wiggle

"€185.53 1 x Elite Crono Fluid ElastoGel Trainer"

No issues, you use the gears on your bike and more than enough resistance for me.

I have a PM and have noticed that for a given gear a higher cadence is needed to maintain constant power after it warms up. Once fluid is warmed up, constant cadence == constant power for any given gear.
