do you not see people have better things to be doing, actual paid civil service work ?

worse, why on earth do you think posting in Aviation forum on b.ie will assist this great endeavour

Previously worked a bit in the civil service, and yes a lot of FOIs are pure fishing exercises by journalists who hope a story will just land into their inbox via FOI, though I do think government should be more open in general.

FoI requests are hugely important to ensure accountability of our elected representatives and unelected mandarins. You don't know the response you'll get until you make the FoI request and for every ten or fifty which lead nowhere there is 1 which is illuminating and benefits society.
The very possibility that something might be exposed by a FoI helps to keep those in positions of responsibility honest.

And after all that people still vote for the same 2 political parties in Ireland, regardless of the level of scandals outed via FOI. :D

As a public servant and very off topic but nearly all FOIs are fishing and waste considerable time compiling answers. Accountable yes, but no one accounts for amount of tax payers money fulfilling the requests

Fair ball resurecting a 3 and half year old totally out of context topic.
