I am an adult learning to swim. My arm and leg movement is now fairly good in crawl and breast stroke, but only holding my breath. I have been shown how to breathe , but I just can't take that step. Nervousness is my main problem. Any advice? Mary

One thing you could try is practicing kicking and using a kick board. Keep your arms out front holding on to the board and putting your head under water after each breath. This will help with your confidence.

Im in the same boat. Adult who has been meaning to learn how to swim for ages. Finally took the plunge and went for my first lessons. So far so good. Can get 3/4 way across the pool with the board then run out of breath. When I try to get my head up to draw a breath, I loose my rythem and sink:D.
I suppose its all about practive. Going to keep up the lessons anyway..
