    Hi there,

Hitting the mean streets of Dublin this weekend on a mini-moon... was wondering if anyone could recommend a good night club that isnt any of the above (as that is all you seem to hear about).

Also, not interested in the likes of Crystal etc because I'd have to reject so many women this weekend... :p

    As above.

Do you mean you want an alternative spot or just a commercial club that isn't Coppers or in Templebar?

Not sure really, open to most ideas.

    Really? Who you talking to?!

In my 11 years socialising in Dublin I've been to Coppers once and nightclubs Temple Bar maybe 4 or 5 times. Between my friends and colleagues I might hear the odd time that they "ended up in Coppers for the laugh" but this is a rarity and same with Temple Bar!

There are tonnes of better choices in Dublin. If you tell people what age you are and what type of music and vibe you're into, then people can give you suggestions.

Layefette in Dawson Street is supposed to be really good( all my friends go). Twisted pepper is good If you like alternative nights out.

I prefer mid week Dublin to the weekend clubs which are over crowded and over priced. Monday is diceys, Tuesday is c unt, Wednesday is the lost society etc. Mid week is far better than the weekend.

Dandelion on the green is a top class nightclub.

Diceys monday and Krystle Tuesday are class! As the poster a few up already said i prefer these cheaper nights out than a Saturday of spending 200 quid.

OK, since you haven't got a lot of help, I'll give very brief synopsis of the clubs I've been to in relatively recent times. Heading out shortly so this is very incomplete.

    Alternative Clubs

Twisted Pepper: Best club in Dublin by a mile in my book. Usually underground house or techno on Saturday. Doors can be up to €15 and if you're not into your thump or people enhanced by chemicals other than alcohol then it's not for you.

Grand Social: Indie downstairs, house upstairs. Decent if unspectacular.

Workman's Club: Music varies but was indie and 80s downstairs and house and tech-house upstairs last time I was there. Some people love it but I find it very cramped and oppressive. Opens late.

Liquor Rooms: Opens till 4-5 am. Weird but kinda cool decor. House and disco music.

Cassidy's: More a late bar than a club, good spot though. Rock and indie music. Fairly small and gets quite packed.

Pygmalion: House, tech-house and techno whenever I've been there on a Saturday. Again, some people love it but to me it feels like one big corridor and I find it uncomfortable. Queue for the jacks so long you'd think you're getting on a rollercoaster at the end of it. Flowerpots round the corner from club a better pissing option.

Opium Rooms: New dance club opened where the Village used to be. Haven't actually been but I've heard decent things about it.

    Commerical Clubs:

D2: For me this is the most tolerable mainstream club in Dublin. Lovely spacious smoking area.

Dicey's: Fairly standard commercial fare but the layout is cool; the majority of the club is a nice big smoking area. More fordiners (manly Hispanic) than your average Dublin club. Ear-splittingly loud.

    Flannery's: Coppers but not Coppers.

McGowan's: See above; now with added Dubs.

    Gotta go, have fun anyway.

Same. The only people I heard of going to Coppers were people in college that weren't from Dublin. Seems to be really popular among that crowd. Anyone I know who has gone hated it.

What's the crowd like in TP? Rough? Friendly? Is it comparable to anywhere?

Heading in a few weeks after a gig.

It could depend what's on in there that night. The staff and clientele are generally very friendly, have had many a great chat with randomers in the smoking areas. Though in saying that, some scobey looking guy nicked my iPhone out of my jacket pocket on the dance floor at a gig over a year ago, though that could also be chalked down to my own carelessness.

Rough Sleeper is pretty spot on with his post.

I used to go to the Lost Society a lot on Wednesdays and enjoyed it.
