Over 10 million spent on him this summer however Danny Rose started on Saturday. Is Davies exoected to come into the first 11 for league games over the next few weeks or is Rose Pochettino's first choice left back? What are people's opinions on this?

Pretty straightforward IMO. Rose is Spurs left back in the same way Freidel was our first choice keeper when we signed Lloris. No player (especially a young one) has the divine right to a first team berth. Davies will be eased in. In the same way Dier would have been if Vertonghen was fully fit.

Here's a question, Rose was traditionally a left mid/winger. Is he worth a shout further up the pitch?

Can't understand why this hasn't been tried, he's too careless to play as a defender. Much better suited in a more advanced role, he'll run up and down all day and provide some cover.

    Couldn't agree more.

When you pay 8 figures for a full back you expect him to be in the team, especially when the incumbent is absolute rubbish.

I am worried that Davies didn't start on Saturday.

In fairness Davies was bought to add competition and, most likely, win that competition and be the first choice left back.

Though he's new to the club and back four, please Rose arguably had a better game against Schalke. Picking Rose was common sense. As next weekend's match is another London derby I wouldn't be surprised to see Rose in there again. Though, it won't be long before Davies takes over.

I'd fancy Rose at left wing about the same as I fancy him at left back, ie not much.

He's definitely an option if we had an injury crisis, but it's not like he can cross the ball or beat his man. He's fast, that's all. Far worse at crossing than even Lennon.

zero spent on him & vorm in reality with Sigg going the other way

    zero net spend

proper money needs to be spent between now and 1 Sep

We have a net spend of -54million since 2010 I read the other day. Not sure if that's sterling or euros.

if that's true it works out at around 10mil a year
clubs in the championship are spending more than that

Not sure how reliable the source was, it was on some blog that someone posted a link to on here.

By the way, that minus 54 million net spend since 2010, as in we have not spent/re-invested all the money we made from the sales of Bale, Modric, VDV, and the rest of them in the last 4 seasons not to mention the investiment you would expect from a big club outside of money generated from player sales.

Some won't be happy till we have done a Leeds Utd.

    Its pretty simple.

We have a good net spend because Levy buys young and sells at a profit. He does this even with players who dont work out not just the Bale/VDV/Modric types. I for one think this is smart and really good business. It means we are getting financially stronger every year. When we get a bigger stadium we will have more revenue which in turn allows us to be even stronger. Also net spend is only one part of the story. We could be investing that in wage bills for all people know. We are constantly resigning our big names to newer better contracts.

There is also a stat that only Chelsea and Man City have had more €10m+ transfers than Spurs so its not like we aren't trading in the market. I really cant figure out why net spend and debt has become a badge of honour. RM, PSG, Chelsea and Man City represent everything that is wrong with football in my view. Spurs are a real club that are investing and growing sensibly and with purpose (training ground, stadium, young talent).

Why would you want to be like Chelsea - they dont even play attractive football for all the moneybags they have?

oh you mean 54mil profit - great if you're a shareholder bad if you're a fan

there's plenty of middle ground between being ambitious and 'doing a Leeds'

spending what you take in would be a start

You do realise that the club has expenses other than transfers right?

The new training ground and the preparation for the stadium has cost more than any net profit on transfers.

Yep, and it also has plenty of other revenue apart from player sales.
The new TV and sponsorship deals are massive

Reinvesting revenue from player sales on new players should be something well should all expect to happen as a bare minimum.

So far this summer a cost neutral Siggy swap for Vorm and Davies is pathetic whilst all around us the opposition has strengthened.

we're falling further and further behind

there will be no stadium under ENIC - the planning permission increases the value for whenever ENIC decide to cash in/ sell up

    hopefully this happens soon

You'd imagine Davies will eventually be our regular left back, but starting with Rose is probably good idea in fairness. Rose's attitude at times last season was crap, giving the ball away and just trotting back and not putting it in. If the manager and coaching staff can work on him though, he can still be a good squad player.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,284 ✭✭✭DubPerryman

I suspect Davies will start today.... and then go on to justify his starting place in the Premier League.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,395 ✭✭✭Hatch99

Surely entitled to a start in the league now, Rose has been awful recently.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭tippspur

Rose is crap and I haven't seen anything in Davies to warrant him taking his place, that's how bad things are at LB for our team.
