    Hi Everyone,

We're hoping to install solar panels (we're thinking evacuated tubes), but are wondering if people could:
    (i) give us an indication of cost (4-bed dormer bungalow), (ii) identify if we're entitled to any grants (the house was built 2006/2007), (iii) recommend a reputable & cost effective supplier, and (iv) recommend a reputable and cost effective installer. We're based in Newbridge, Kildare.

    Thanks a million!

    Hi
    (1) The cost of a solar system would on average be between €4000 - €5000
Depending on the supplier or installer
You should get a 50 tube,300ltr tank with heat dump,BER rating for €4750.00, basically the full package for that money.
    (2)
Seai grant for solar states that the house must have been built pre 2006
Check the date stamped on your Esb metre, if it's 2006 your not but you will get some people that go for it anyway.
    (3)
Best if you go for a one stop shop where the installer is also supplying, you don't want to be the tennis ball between the supplier and installer if things go wrong
Get a list of references of previous customers and don't get sucked inn with gimmicks like
Special price as your the first in this area.
Put a sign in the garden 10% off
Sign up today and we will give you €2000 off
If the sales guy stays longer that 30 minutes charge him rent, he's desperate to sell.

    Watch out for the following..
    1. Our system will also do your heating,
This is just rubbish and is of no use to you.

    2. You don't need a heat dump.
Show this guy the door as they don't know what there doing and if they can't install a simple heat dump then how can you expect them to be able to fix the solar system when it starts giving trouble.

Now that I've replied to your post you should also get a load more replies as this is normally the case.

When you get some quotes come back to us on here and we can advise you further.
