Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Replay of the final, replay of some epic games from last season. Madrid under Carlo have been a joy to watch at times. Diego's always a legend to watch (and a legendary mod)

First time to see griezmann and mandzukic. Two signings that really should strengthen Atletico. Unfortunately, gone are Luis, Costa and Courtois. Anyways, as per tradition in all games Atletico face against the big two. I'm gonna be biased, just a little bit, towards them.

Atletico XI : Moya; Juanfran, Miranda, Godin, Siqueira; Saul, Gabi, Mario Suarez, Koke; Raul Garcia, Mandzukic.

Real XI : Casillas; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Modric, Alonso, Kroos; Cristiano, Benzema, Bale

Finally the game gets underway. Big tributes for DiStefano.

Very quiet thus far. Atleti are their usual dogged self - deep and difficult to break down. Not looking particularly dangerous on the break either, though I hope we see Griezmann as he'd definitely add a different dynamic there.

Wouldn't be surprised if Real had upwards of 70% possession there - really is an embarrassment of riches having players as comfortable passing the ball as Alonso, Modric and Kroos are.

Tribute to DiStefano (sp?) was lovely. Best chances have arguably fell to Atleti. Real being stifled and Ronaldo is somewhat on the periphery. Juanfran's crucial tackle to knock the ball out of play away from Bale on the counter is possibly the best chance Real had. That said, if he didn't make that tackle Ronaldo and Bale and possibly Benzema were 3 on 1!

Casillas still doesn't look confident in goals.

    James coming on. Makes sense.

Edit: Not for Ronaldo it doesn't...

    For Ronaldo!

Mental that the second half is kicking off after midnight local time. A lot of sleepy Madridistas knocking around tomorrow.

Shouldn't these commentator roles be reversed? Watching on ESPN

Here's Griezmann. Interested to see if he goes wide or plays off Mandzukic.

Ramos with a sly punch there.

That was weird that yellow for both. Mandzukic challenge was terrible, then he fell on top of Ramos.

Presumably the ref can't have seen Ramos' punch or he'd be considering red? Wonder what he felt he did to deserve the yellow?

Watch Ramos right hand when hes on the ground, deliberate smack to the face.

Good to keep the unbeaten record against Real going, but they were very dominant there. Didn't really get to see Griezmann at all.

Played a peach of a pass to win the corner. Delighted for atleti.

Anyone know why the second leg of this is on so soon on Friday and then Real and Atleti have to go and play in their first match of the league season on Monday night?

Seems strange to be shoe horning fixtures in already.

Imagine Madrid playing in the Super Cup had something to do with it.

Don't see why they couldn't just have a one-off game for this or scrap it completely even. Nobody over here would care.

Even so, surely the LFP/RFEF had enough time to figure out a better way to arrange the fixtures though. It's not exactly the first time a Spanish side has had to contest both.

The second division has been delayed by a week because the LFP/RFEF still haven't decided if Murcia should be in the second division or the third. They have gone through ideas such as switching from 22 to 23 or 24 teams and promoting another team from the third division but still haven't settled on anything. Both organisations are not known for planning ahead.

And Atletico take the lead already. Shocking defending by Varane in particular.

    Poor form from Simeone there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Ha, Simeone sent off. Lost the plot a bit there and patting the linesman on the head was the final straw for the ref.

Atleticos assistant looks like he was taken from a 1980s gym in Romania.

Moderating the soccer forum clearly has taken its toll on aul Diego. Enjoyable match. Rodriguez is a joy to watch. The play acting drama is typical of this fixture. Like ancellotti just standing there chewing gum watching everyone else throw hissy fits.

100% sure he does not give 2 fcuks about anything.

    "I want a new defender"
    gets Rodriguez and Kroos
    "**** it"

the ultimate disruption football by Atletico

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

So atletico are just as filthy and just as hard to beat as last season. Lad on Sky nailed it there the best person they kept was Simeone, they will be hard to beat again this season.

im actually gutted Diego is gone tho :(

That was very like last season all over again. Some players might have gone, but not much has changed with them. Will be a decent 3 way battle again for the title again it seems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

For such a "pre season" game that was played with some intensity. Wonder if kroos and Rodriguez were subbed because of their late return from the world cup. Certainly in the second half James looked a little legged. Or maybe it was just me. Delighted for atleti.

    Congrats Diego.
    Roll on la liga.

    Happy with tonight.

Great to see Atleti being competitive again this year, thats what the league really needs.

Big 2 got it their own way for too long.

Benzema has 1 goal in his last 15 games, pretty woeful for a starting 9. Surprised they dont have another striker

    Perhaps he's a 'false' No.9 ?
