The judges (bar Craig) have definintely been smoking something in between dances again. Three 8s for Jake, and two 10s for Simon?!

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

Oh god poor Jake! His Tango and Waltz were so dark and fab so I was expecting great things from his Argentine, and then he gets the worst music ever, a comedy routine and the backing dancer tripped him up?

It was the Murphys law of dances!

Caroline was amazing but everyone else was stitched up by the rubbish 'theme' tonight Imo.

    Caroline & Pasha - 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 40 (39) -1
    Pixie & Trent - 9 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 39 (38) -1
    Simon & Kristina - 9 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 39 (38) -1
    Frankie & Kevin - 9 + 9 + 10 + 10 = 38 (36) -2
    Jake & Jeanette - 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 = 36 (29) -7
    Mark & Karen - 8 + 9 + 8 + 9 = 34 (32) -2
    Sunetra & Brendan - 7 + 8 + 8 + 8 = 31 (27) -4

    Total: -18
...ah here. Bit better than I was expecting I suppose. :o

So difficult to predict when the judges are so flimsy. Seriously, I don't think any routine this series will top Caroline's Charleston - so when is Craig gonna get a chance to give a 10 now????

Loved the inclusion of the Lord of the Dance cast, absolutely fantastic. A bunch of incredibly talented dancers.

It's funny, but I said to my OH last night, Would they do a dance from Ireland. His answer is that Irish dancing isn't ballroom! Was delighted to see it.

    Mark way better than Sunetra

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,026 ✭✭✭Call me Al

I liked Sunetras dance this week. I know she didn't get favourable comments but I much preferred hers to Mark and his shimmy shimmy routine.

I don't know what it is about him but I just didn't warm to him at all this week.

Just catching up on the results show now (and typing rather than watching that awful rumba again......)

I'm hoping Mark makes it though, although Karen is giving me a right pain in my face lately - when their names were called for the dance-off she looked like someone had told her her favourite puppy had died. Which I suppose makes a change from shrieking like a banshee when they're called as being through to next week.

Contrast that to Janette's reaction when she and Jake got through - and if anyone had a right to be shocked and surprised, they had this week! - nice and understated.

Lovely speech from Sunetra, how on earth do they manage to remember their words - or do they have a selection of autocues of speeches lined up??

Jake should have gone, feel like he's been coasting for weeks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,674 ✭✭✭Curlysue76

I think Jake will be next to go followed by Mark. Simon, Pixie (my favourite), Caroline, Frankie and Simon for the finals.

Didn't really like Caroline's Charleston. Good dancing but didn't like the music or the theme. Would be good to see Pixie's Charleston in the final.

    Some crazy marking this week.
Simon was criminally overmarked for his waltz. He made quite a few mistakes. The music certainly didn't help. Edelweis is a classical Viennese Waltz song. Even sung slowly, it was far too quick for a standard waltz. Producers have a lot to answer for.
Mark's routine was awful. Pelvic thrusts and some basic salsa steps and that was about it. To be fair, Karen was quite good but you'd bloody hope so, seeing that the Salsa is supposed to be one of her strong points. Craig was damn right to point out that there were timing issues.
Jake - oh dear. What a catastrophe. The judges said that the music didn't work. Any idiot would have known that as soon as it was announced. Again, utter stupidity from the producers and it's a common theme with the show in the last few years.
Pixie deserved a 40 for her dance and I bet it would have got 40 if it had been the last dance of the night. She's being marked relative to her ability instead of the actual dances, which is quite unfair because she's being judged completely differently to the other contestants.
    Caroline was very good.

I agree, the marking was odd this week. Mark or Simon could go next. Although, a dance-off surprise could be on the cards.

Producers have a lot to answer for. A Greek Argentine tango?? Just leave the dance in Argentina!! I don't understand their thinking behind some of the decisions. Hopefully the theme weeks are done. I like Movie Week but that's enough.

It's in danger of becoming more like Dancing with the Stars.

The producers of Strictly have a lot to answer for.... This is how the 'Around the World' theme could have been.

Pixie & Trent - Viennese Waltz >> Austria
    Simon & Kristina - Waltz >> England
    Caroline & Pasha - Charleston >> USA
    Frankie & Kevin - Jive >> USA
Jake & Janette - Argentine Tango >> Argentina
Mark & Karen - Salsa >> Latin America
    Sunetra & Brendan - Rumba >> Cuba

Ok so there are two dances from the USA, but they are from different eras. The show could have been soooo much better :(

    Pixie & Trent = 10+10+10+10 = 40
    Simon & Kristina = 9+10+10+10 = 39
    Caroline & Pasha = 9+10+10+10 = 39
    Frankie & Kevin = 9+9+9+9 = 36
    Jake & Janette = 9+9+9+9 = 36
    Mark & Karen = 8+9+9+9 =35
    Sunetra & Brendan = 7+8+8+7 = 30

    Pixie & Trent = -2
    Simon & Kristina = -1
    Caroline & Pasha = 0
    Frankie & Kevin = 0
    Jake & Janette = -7
    Mark & Karen = -3
    Sunetra & Brendan = -3

A grand total of -16 for me :D

Strictly upset the Scots by having an Irish act on, on St Andrews Day.

Jake obviously got more public votes than Mark though, and I don't think the judges would save Mark over Jake in a dance off, regardless of who danced best. Jake is not my favourite, but I personally think he will sail through the final three and has a great chance of winning. I'd rather it was Caroline of Pixie though. I want Mark and Simon gone before the final weekend, don't really care what order.

    It's Walzathon this week :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,919 ✭✭✭RosyLily

^ I prefer the Swing-athon. Much more fun.:(

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,368 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

I always found the swing-a-thon to never live up to expectations.

I think the Waltz-a-thon will be like a proper ballroom competition and we could really see who are the best couple :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,919 ✭✭✭RosyLily

I'm intrigued to see if we'll have many clashes in the waltzaton.:D

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,598 ✭✭✭Meauldsegosha

They did a waltzaton before and I much preferred it to the swing-a-thon. It reminded me of proper dance competitions.

Ahh I remember competing in a Walzathon.
It will probably go better than the swingathon
