Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Islamic stone book -

    Hi Folks

    I have this 19th century small book made of a stone similar to slate or basalt.

    Can anybody help me to read the inscription ? it is on both the front and back.

    I have included images of both sides and would be grateful to anybody that can interpret its meaning.

    Asked my Arabic friend who said it was Persian, asked friend from Iran and she couldn't understand it either which means it's probably old Persian as it's very different to the modern language apparently.

    Edit - I think this is it:
    فرحت بالقائلين لي إلى بيت الرب نذهب. وقفت أرجلنا في ديار أورشليم، أورشليم المبنية مثل مدينة متصلة بعضها ببعض. لأن هناك صعدت القبائل، قبائل الرب، شهادة لإسرائيل، يعترفون لاسم الرب. هناك نصبت كراسي للقضاء كراسي بيت داود.

    اسألوا السلام لأورشليم والخصبَ لمحبيك. ليكن السلام في حصنك والخصب في أبراجك الرصينة. من أجل اخوتي وأقربائي تكلمت من أجلك بالسلام، ومن أجل بيت الرب إلهنا التمست لك الخيرات هلليلويا.

    It's Christian, not Islamic. It's Psalm 122, found the above on a Coptic Orthodox Christian site under the prayer book section (see paragraph 5 on the web page).

    It looks like Arabic script alright , Coptic means that it is very unusual - will have to do some detailed research and see what I can find.

    I really appreciate your help and also thank your 2 friends for having a look.

    I will keep you posted as to what information I can find -
    Presumed it was 19th century Arabic, early or older Korans have an envelope-type back.

    It may be quite an early item if Coptic -
