Jaysus imagine there came an almighty shower of rain flooding the hospital again

...and international news crews, surely on their way, witnessed it. Don't think they would be very reassured.

I thought Ebola dies with the host?, it's just very contagious while you're alive

Ebola "dies" with soap. Doesn't "die" when the host dies. Bodies remain infectious after death. I'd wager our biggest threat to spreading the virus would be our funeral culture. But, we can easily amend that.

It's quite possible it is not ebola, but given that the man in question has returned from Sierra Leone recently it's certainly no harm taking precautions.

Does anyone have any other information on the man like his age and when he returned home.

Any known ebola death - the body should be cremated. Simple as that. Regardless of what country its in or what your religious belief is.

The poor man was (allegedly) being treated for malaria. Very likely that malaria was the cause of death. His poor family, they must be heartbroken.

    Too late!

The mammy left Donegal yesterday for Dublin. She rang a while ago saying she was feeling ill and wouldn't be coming home. You know, I think she was in A&E yesterday visiting a neighbor too...

Was the Irish health service treating him for malaria? Where was it diagnosed?

I don't know how valid this is because it's in a tabloid but according to the article

''It's understood the dead man is from the village of Mountcharles in Donegal.

He was home with friends and family and was undergoing treatment for malaria.''

I obviously can't say myself what is true or not, I just read it a little while ago but here is the link if you want to have a look (with a pinch of salt) http://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/breaking-live-updates-hse-investigate-4086466

Newsflash: Derek Davies is now being treated for Ebola, the deadly flesh-eating virus.

Doctors have given him twenty-seven years to live.

I think people should wait til the tests are done.
I'd be very surprised if it was Ebola, I'd be betting it was malaria.

TBH if the man is Irish and happened to be working for a west African company and not in the sticks and was being treated for Malaria. Chances are it's Malaria.

malaria has probably killed more people than any other disease and yet we are hoping it is malaria.

Malaria hasn't killed more people than any other disease and can only be spread by mosquitoes. There are no mosquitoes in Ireland. Id be happy enough if it's malaria. Even if it is ebola I wouldn't be worried.

Family friends said the man, who is believed to be 44, was taken ill shortly before 2.30am yesterday and died at his parents’ home.

From what I have read of Ebola it doesn't seem to fit does it?

Good article on the BBC here, interview with an Irish doctor with MSF Ireland (didn't know they existed) who is there. These folks do seem to be trained/qualified and know what they are doing. Have only respect for them.

Listening to an interview of the doctor who identified it some time back, said its a disease of poverty and ignorance. Even if it were to get here it could not spread well.
This pretty much sums it up, 300 Ebola deaths traced back to a healer in Sierra Leone. Healer/herbalist/witch doctor.

Thanks for those links. I read about that healer spreading the virus to all them people alright something like that just wouldnt happen in a western country. so some here are saying the guy in Donegal was being treated for malaria where is this coming from? if he was being treated for malaria then chances are it was malaria right? do you need to be treated in hospital for that or is it the sort of thing you can take medication at home to treat?..someone mentioned zerohedge, yep the Americans are all over this Id say most western countries are and will be watching and waiting to see what the result of this guys test will be come Friday. maybe it was malaria then probably going to sound bad but if I really had to pick between the two I hope it was that.
