My b2w is up in January, which is only around the corner, so I need to get a new bike. I'm lucky enough to have a collection of bikes at the moment, and was thinking of getting something different. I have road bikes, TT bike, cx, mtb,, steel bikes, have had track bike, bmx bike, fixed, single speed, so what else is there out there. Budget is in or around 1000. First world problems and all that.....

Do you live near a beach? One of those mental Surly dune bikes?

Is family lenny due to expand later in the year?
If so then the obvious answer is some sort of cargo bike that a trailer/baby carrier can be towed.

    Touring
    DH
    Cargo
    Well proper winter commuter
    Turbo bike
    Watt bike
    Trike
    Tandem
    Wooden

Not sure you could get any of them for less than a grand. Nothing worth buying at least.

I was half thinking of a fat bike - the surly ones are a bit out of budget, but the on-one ones look ok.

Touring - have (ish - surly cross check, lash on gears and racks and sorted)
DH - i would hurt myself
Cargo - dunno if i would use it
Well proper winter commuter - have
    Turbo bike - have
    Watt bike - what?
    Trike - no
Tandem - you'd look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle made for two
    Wooden - hmmmmm

If you have many bikes then you should consider a road bike for special occasions- anything really really classic (ie think Taxmans stable of bikes). A bike that you would only ever really use in a scorching summers day for a pootle in the countryside

@ rok on - i (almost) have one of those - mid 80s colnago super with campag bits. Just need to sort out some wheels.

I was looking at fat bikes last night, and think i am going to go for one of them. They look interesting......

I have a Brompton for 9 years, it is the best toy I ever bought !! Great for Dublin city cycling, get a six speed and go a bit further afield

Thanks for the suggestion, but, i just couldnt see myself using a brompton, or any folding bike. If I was going for a folding bike I would probably go for a brombpton (and race CX on it)

You are not going to get a Cargo bike for less and a grand. Most people who buy them (in particular the Longjohn type) never sell them. They are just far too practical, and with things like the Bullitt you are just as fast as on a hybrid bike, unless fully loaded.

^^ i'm not going to get a cargo bike full stop :)
I'm thinking some kind of off road bike.

Only if you remove the saddle first.

How about a folding mountain bike: link

Not cheap, but the compromise is in the folded size rather than frame strength and general usability.

I recently seen a trek crossrip in chrome with disc brakes and thought it would make a beautiful winter bike.

A whole lot of talking, very little buying.

Whichever one of the above you end up going with, it should make our commuter racing along the Old N1 a little more interesting ....

What about a Cotic escapade seems to be a do anything frame.
