Grand Canyon day trips

Heading to Vegas for 5 days next month. I'm looking for recommendations for day trips to the Grand Canyon. I was considering doing a white water rafting trip but $500 seems like crazy money. Can anyone recommend anything reasonably priced?

I was just there last weekend. It was $12 pp to get access to the park (on the south side) and inside of it there are miles and miles of hiking trails along the GC. The easiest ones are quite touristy but the more difficult ones are usually a lot less quiet. Here was our view:

AFAIK, there are tons of helicopter rides which run from Vegas. That might be an option. I'm not sure about other rafting options though.

Its quite a way from Las Vegas, so to do it in a day is going to cost $$.
