Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Don't think it was full anyway. Seemed to be empty seats around.

Zabaleta is right to laugh at that pathetic dive.

If anything, this is a great lesson to get at the start of the season, it may sharpen some peoples focus for the season ahead.

Emre Can looks like a joke shop player

At least Moreno looks like a lad with potential

Liverpool still three points better of than last season

Agreed. Don't know why he wasn't.

He let Toure off so went easy on Can too.

    Both should be off

Can should have been off for dive. Toure for tackle on Skrtel.

Congrats to City. No complaints there.

Fair play City. Much better team. Although it is early on, I expect you to win the league.

    Well done City, well deserved.

Only one winner when the first goal went in.

That was a nice one...never really had to push ourselves. Hopefully no injuries. Good night lads!

    Fuggit. :(

At least we'll have no problem reversing that scoreline on our next visit to Manchester.

Fairly abysmal night with no positives. Defence still poor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,526 ✭✭✭✭Darkglasses

Well that'll do no harm to our confidence anyway. A lot of really good individual performances there today, particularly Jovetic. Fernando looks like a very credible starter after that too.

Man City were very good, especially 2nd half. Glad to have the fixture out of the way to be honest.

City playing hey jude, they know it's by a famous scouser right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

Good, professional performance. We didn't really have to break sweat. Pity about letting in such a crappy goal near the end, but hey ho. Onwards to Stoke at the weekend. Going over for that one, Icelandic volcano permitting!

Credit to Moreno for seeing that out.

While I'd never wish misfortune on a player of my team, it's become almost cliché to have a go at Johnson but again he was useless, momentum just dies with him when he gets it. There was one moment in the first half where he cut inside and you could see the hamster on a wheel working overtime as he gently toe poked it into 4 City defenders.

City on top once they went 1-0 up. A well oiled machine won out in the end.

Well done City, no positives from that performance to take other than Lambert's goal, I agree that Can should have been off for his tumble....

Never nice to lose like that. It was Man City though. Onwards and upwards hopefully

Was it his goal? Looked like an OG in the replay?

Result exactly as expected. Does little damage to Liverpool's aspirations of top 4 to be fair.

One big positive is the potential for Johnson to be out injured. I was actually hoping he would play on once he realised there were no subs, in order to worsen whatever injury he picked up.

Cue the faux outrage brigade.... couldn't give a rats.

When is a loss a win?

I did not say it was a win, but a harsh lesson, which is always burnt into the memory.

City themselves have had some hard lessons, and onward from there.

the defence was pathetic and I've no confidence in Mignolet.

it's weird. apart from that, I'm not that upset. we played well.

the reason City looked so comfortable is simply that our defence was so generous, and our forwards were so careless when in great positions.

once the back 4 is together a while, I really hope to see improvement, or else we won't win anything, will struggle for top 4, and probably go out of the CL at the group stages.

It's an awful thing to say but i hope glens injury is longterm

Wishing long-term injury on your own player? Seriously? WTF?????

City at times are just different class. The 2nd goal was just great football and you gotta be in awe of it. Few small mistakes and the game is out of reach. Not too dissapointed, City will win 90% of their home games by a decent score. At least Liverpool created some good chances and on a different day the scoreline might not have flattered.

or he could have just headed off the line instead of trying to throw his stupid foot at it....

It's one of those ones which was def an OG, but which the "dubious goals committee" occasionally give to the striker because he caused the whole situation.

The first of many yellows that Can will see...

looked shoulder to shoulder for me on the replay

City are very good at fouling us before our attacks get started.

    BIG TIME!!!

mate was pointing it out during the game... they get those little fouls in and dont concede yellows. fernandinho or fernando got a way with a load and Kompany got a way with a few as well... the ref oliver always lets things go and i reckon the city lads knew this. consistent fouling in the center of the park..

Me neither, I'm still weirdly optimistic and encouraged by the performance. I can't explain it, it's not like it was that good but I think we'd normally be Breyer than that and the opposition would normally be worse than that.

    Plus, it's August

thats bóllix if you ask me, watch again the city player actually goes to body check him, if Can keeps going and clashes with him its a free but he chickens out and goes the other way

It was a clear dive and should have been a second yellow, he threw the leg out to try and make the contact too.
Didn't think anyone would try and defend that one.

I've never seen Markovich play until tonight but there seems to be high hopes for him from a lot of Liverpool fans. He really was anonymous when he came on, it wasn't a great situation to come in to in fairness but I expected a bit more from what I've been hearing.
