Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Barcelona have started so quick here, so much movement off the ball, quick passing and it's paid off here, Rakitic's deep cross us perfect and Messi heads the ball in from quite a distance, picturesque goal.

such a route one goal though

Genius, absolute genius! He starts the move, he finishes it, we are witnessing prime Messi.

what a take and finish that was, slow motion.

3 of the best from the very best, Lionel Messi completes his hat trick. He's on another level right now.

Fantastic goal by Dennis Suarez for Sevilla v Malaga.

    Great dribbling and close control.

Two lads from Barca have looked good tonight,

sevilla are a bit under the radar this season but emery has them in good nick. If they win their game in hand they would go ahead of atleti and be just behind barca by 2 points. 5 very solid teams in la liga this year.

Some assists by Benzema & James yesterday.

I loved what Ray Hudson had to say about Getafes defence after the second goal.
"Stretched out like spandex on Miami Beach."

Extremely small doses. A full 90 minutes makes me somewhat homicidal :)

Hudson wouldn't be for everyone but I do find him entertaining. I dunno how the commentator beside him manages to keep it together. :pac:

    Bad miss from Suarez.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

Awful miss by his standards. A lot of passing moving break down when they get to him too. He slightly misplaces the pass.

Intriguing tie so far. Barca probably deserve to be shading it, but had Pique not being incredibly lucky Torres might have slipped through can't ever spell his name so just going to call him G-man. :o

    Dani Alves is embarrassing.

Stupid from Suarez. Would have been in a great position.

    WOW

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,557 ✭✭✭✭CSF

And the Barca players bullying the referee win themselves a very very soft penalty.

Stupid penalty to give away. Busquets made a meal of it though.

    Typical Busquets....

He dived but it's still a foul, he kicked through him. The harassing of the ref from both teams, especially Barça, is pathetic.

horrible antics from barcelona. the usual spoiled child behaviour . Ref couldnt wait to pacify them

Ray Hudson is shocking. Awful commentator.

Barca are always harassing the ref in every game but a goal's a goal.

It actually had disappeared to a large extent. Horrible to see it back.

    Brutal match overall.

They were bad in the la liga win against Athletico but hadn't seen a match in a while before that.

    Vital interception there

Fantastic, the great form continues and another win over Busquets. Luis Garcia is spot on here, it's a clear penalty.

You've been bemoaning the amount of "soft" penalties Real Madrid get all season, yet put on the Barca tinted glasses in defence when one is awarded in Barca's favour.

You've become a caricature of yourself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

Godin is a MASSIVE loss. :(
The main thing for Barca in this tie was not to concede the away goal. They did that. Better yet they got the lead. Now Atleti have to come at then and allow Barca have space.

This is still on a knife edge though. Can't wait for next week. Here's hoping Atleti score first.

Well Juanfran has kicked Busquets quite hard in the back of the leg, he's not gotten near the ball, I'm not sure how it can be called a soft penalty, it's a plain as day penalty, the only thing that could have been called into doubt was the refs view due to the crowd of players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

I don't know why people are calling that penalty soft. I can only think it's because it's Busquets.

He got kicked in the back of the leg. Penalty all day long.

The game deserved to be a draw. Atletico's discipline was incredible.

    A horrible watch though.

Realistically, the contact there is about as significant as the contact for the one Atleti got a few weeks back that we all dismissed as soft.

Personally thought there was far more in last night's tbh.

Thought they were both pretty minimal. In both cases there is contact, but I really don't think there was enough to impede the player and certainly not enough to be hitting the ground.

Scrape on the toe versus kick in the calf.

Don't get me wrong, Busquets could've probably stayed on his feet if he really tried, but it was far more a foul than last week.

    It was moronic from Juanfran.

    .

To me that's an understatement of one and an overstatement of the other.

It was definitely a penalty and iirc Juanfran gave it away with his hands to the head reaction before the ref blew for the penalty.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

You can only laugh at that being compared to the one last week, Juanfran has kicked him nearly full force on the back of the leg, I don't think he meant to but if anyone, let alone a top class athlete in peak physical condition, kicks you in the back of the leg then you're going to feel it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

It was a penalty and to say otherwise is ludicrous.

Atleti are still very much in this however. They are more then capable of nullifying Barca and they have goals in them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

Very harsh pen there. Would love to see Cordoba hold on now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,557 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Just saw the score there, wow. Shades of Real last season with the early goal conceded. I'm sure they'll pull it back with 4 or 5 unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

What a mad match it's been. Real really, really poor today and Ronaldo just sent off.

Now a penalty for Real. Bale scores. Mad.

Hard to feel sorry for a madrid player getting sent off because the other player was shot :)

Messi's return to form seems to be affecting Ronaldo.

He scored twice in the last match.

Just lost the head a bit really, that's all.

    He lost it. Full stop.
He should have been sent off for punching earlier too
