Taking into consideration winter and summer months, overall, who has a better climate, Canada or Ireland? I know Canada is massive so lets restrict it to the cities of Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and Montreal for the purpose of discussion.

    Thanks

Montreal - Hot and sticky in summer, freezing in winter.
    Toronto - Same
    Calgary - Same

I wouldn't live in any of them because of this.

Vancouver has 4 seasons. Really good summer, doesn't get too cold in winter and even though they say it rains a lot, it absolutely does not.

Vancouver has a better climate, I would prefer Irish climate to the other cities.

You can't even compare Vancouver and Toronto, let alone compare them to Ireland!

Vancouver is a mild climate, like Ireland. Warm summers, wet the rest of the year. Very little snow.

The temperatures in Toronto and Vancouver seem to be much better then they are now in Ireland. 24 or 25 degrees for this time of year is pretty decent. I think a couple of weeks of snow is worth the nice the nice summers they get. However, I'm not sure how spring and autumn fair out.

Vancouver today was cloudless, blue skies, temperatures around 25 degrees, with a light breeze. Absolutely perfect, in other words. Toronto, from what I've heard, is hotter and more humid because it's inland.

Vancouver doesn't really get snow - maybe a couple of days a year, at most. Toronto has brutally cold winters, with months and months of snow (like most of Canada). This year just gone, there have been reports of 8 months solid snow in parts of Canada. So it's not 'a couple of weeks of snow' - it's either no snow (but rain) or months of snow.

I'm not good with humidity, so I couldn't cope with summers in Toronto, but Vancouver has been ideal so far.

It's all a matter of personal opinion really...

But IMHO I prefer the weather in Ireland, at least in Ireland you know what you're getting and weather rarely interrupts plans.

I live in Niagara Falls (same weather as TO typically) for the last 14 months, I must admit the weather's pretty good today. But there was snow here from the last week in November 2013 to the end of March 2014, following that there was even a few weeks of snow showers in April.

It seemed to go from highs of -10 to highs of 25 almost over night. There were about 3 weeks in May when the weather was comfortable but once it got into June the high temperatures and humidity was back.

I'm a runner so at the minute I've to get my runs in first thing in the morning or after dark as it's too hot otherwise. I couldn't run all winter as it's too cold. May and September are the only good months for running.

The thunderstorms in the summer here are crazy, and when the rain starts it starts. I've never had as many 'rainchecks' as I have here, if there's any hint of rain Canadians seem to postpone events, bbqs, etc. It becomes a bit frustrating, especially as rain showers typically only last a few hours.

So in summary I much prefer Ireland as at least you can just get on with it...

Oh and we think we're obsessed with talking about the weather... nothing on the Canadians!!

Thats one of the most ridiculous comments I've read here. Are you sure? I say the opposite is the true of Irish weather. I lived there for over a decade. In Canada you actually know what you get from season to season...

I had a little giggle when I read that nonsense...

I'm glad it gave you a giggle, but I'm not sure why you've dismissed it as nonsense.

I said in my opinion I prefer Irish weather. Which I do. I'd take 100 days of rain in Ireland over 1 day of snowy winter here or 1 summer day so hot you're sweating just standing still... just my opinion.

I understand, but I'd reckon thats because you've been away from Ireland too long... A short holiday would likely remind you of the unpredictable weather you left behind though..

I wouldn't say so, it's only been 9 months. Although I haven't been back since the really bad snow.

To be honest the winter here was just too much for me, in my mind, nothing is worth living through that. I'm due to go back when my visa expires in June. But if the snow's back at the end of October, as they're predicting, I'll be gone by Christmas.

I'm not a fan of the hot, humid summer either. It's one extreme to the other here.

That's why I was saying I prefer Ireland, the temperature is usually fairly consistent.

In all my years living in Ireland I don't remember the weather overly impacting anything I was doing. Where it seems to have a big influence here. It's just my experience!

Said nobody who ever planned a bbq in Ireland ever...

I hate how humid it is here all the time, I'm actually glad it's going to start getting colder soon, the nights are bit cooler now but its still in the mid 20's and sticky as sh1t all the time. Roll on full blown Autumn I say, much prefer wrapping up in the cold to trying to cool down in the humidity.
