Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm actually very impressed with Blackett in the short time he has had so far, but yeah even with Rojo we are too thin thanks to our love of injuries.

I think Blackett's been decent too. Had a good preseason, but I think it's a bad state of affairs that this is what we HAVE to rely on, as oppose to being in such a strong position we can give him a good run out.

Didn't look a lot wrong with him in that last phase of play.

Jon Campion would want to educate himself on Marcos Rojo referring to him as a left back.

I think he's only going to be predicting where he'll play...cannot see Rojo being a success at CB, especially in England.

Also has Cleverly got some sort of blackmail on Neville. He straight up refuses to ever criticise him when he commentates. either the player that passed it to cleverly or luck are at fault

He's an England player. Neville generally isn't that eager to criticise them because of his role there.

I've saw a lot of papers making this mistake too, he's primarily a left sided CB that can play as a left back. it's not hard to do some research

United scored that goal when I was in the bog. Thinking maybe I should spend the rest of the game in there.

You don't. That's your first injury in your back 3. There just isn't enough quality and depth there.
Second in our back three, fifth in our backline when you include WBs, before even mentioning our two best midfielders to cover and protect them.

Might as well be none at all!

    Mother of God Cleverley

  • Good movement from mata for the goal

Where is the creativity in this Sunderland side going to come from?

Johnny Evans, Shaw, Smalling and I suspect Rafael isn't fit either.

    That's 4 defenders.

I'm guessing Shaw and Rafael are wing backs in your formation so you can't say they're defenders.

Also isn't Johnny Evans fit again?

I've no idea why Van Gaal is playing a back 3 considering it is the one position on the pitch they don't have depth.

So are Young and Valencia now defenders? Couldn't really see them as your centre backs.

Tom Cleverly is playing in our midfeild.

Just let that sink in for a moment.

They're wingers being used as wing backs out of sheer crisis

If Utd lose today, can they just gift Sunderland Cleverly as a forfeit?...

Wing backs are defenders. Jonny Evans is not fit. HTH

Luke Shaw or Rafael wouldn't play centre back either, ergo are they not defenders? Strange logic.

Poor as Cleverly has been, that was entirely on Valencia.

"There are four types of defender: centre-back, sweeper, full-back and wing-back. The centre-back and full-back positions are essential in most modern formations. The sweeper and wing-back roles are more specialised for certain formations."

I'd be moving Rooney back to get some rhythm going in the midfield. Bring on Hernandez up top

What I'm trying to say is that in a 5-3 2 formation with wing backs, you need 3 centre backs. United's worst possible position at the moment is centre backs, whether you include injuries or not, centre back is their worst position in terms of depth and quality. I'm surprised Van Gaal is using this formation as it just enhances the lack of quality in the centre of defence.

If have Ben Pearson in that team ahead of fletcher and cleverley.
Reece James simply could not do a worse job that young.
And I think today finally convinces everyone that Valencia cannot play as a wing back.
