Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Information on the cork strike

I keep hearing from Cork folks about frank Murphy and how he has ruined cork football and hurling. And how he was, at least, part of the reason behind the strike.

Can someone explain what he is supposed to have done and what the reasons behind the strike were.

I'd prefer if this was fact based and not personal opinon.

(I realise this could descend into chaos, so have no objection to it being locked. just genuinely curious)

I'm not trying to be smart but if you google Cork Strike GAA you'll get all the answers you are looking for.

Frank Murphy has become a pantomime character of sorts over the last 5 or 6 years. Seemingly he's the reason for failure at just about every level in GAA in Cork.

Every slack jawed yokel on the street seems to have an opinion on him, whereas in truth, most people don't know a single thing about him.

He is a legendary belligerent. Here are the greatest hits.....some of these are as recent as this years championship:

    1) Ger Loughnane insinuating that Cork through Frank Murphy ordered the removal of Tipperary referee James Ryan from refereeing one of the All Ireland finals last year. Amazingly, Cork held their tongue on this and even more amazingly Loughnane was never pulled on this (as he said it live on air on the Sunday Game) and never issued an apology for this disgusting innuendo.
    2) Cyril Farrell, claiming the 25 degree heat baking Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Munster final day.....the last inter-county championship game before redevelopment was somehow a deal struck between Frank Murphy and God. 'My god, Frank has some pull' were his exact words to the affect.
    3) Frank manages a 30million euro windfall to the re-development of the Pairc from the boys in Leinster House. His timing was perfection, with the local elections the following week.
    4) Cork strikes. His handling and reluctance to engage with players regarding basic concerns before preparing for games (ie) the availability of toilets and not having to wizz against a wall on match days and during training, appointment of senior football managers, appointment of senior hurling managers. This is only tip of the iceberg stuff.
    5) Donal Og Cusacks' verbal taunts on the Sunday Game two weeks ago slighting the bundling county board and their complete lack foresight for Cork GAA games and player development at underage. His disdain that the new Pairc is a monument to Frank Murphys tenure. Pairc De Frank.

...........and there are plenty more stories to go with this.
