I am thinking of buying a tablet but I don't know which one to go for.

I would be mainly using it for Facebook, Twitter, Googling stuff etc.
I will also be using it to watch movies and tv shows like the RTE player etc

I was thinking of the Apple Ipad Air but it is kind of expensive.

    Any opinions?

    Thanks

    Moved from Comp & Tech
Do you own any other Apple iOS/Android devices? When you say movies, do you mean Netflix or will you be intending to rip your own movies and upload them to the tablet?

My opinion is you are already looking at the best one, and yes you are right it's expensive.

You can also get a good tablet like the Nexus 7 (2012) for as low as €99 which is little more than Apple charge for the Ipad Air case.

    http://www.expansys.ie/asus-google-nexus7-2012-wi-fi-16gb-252460/

This is a great 7" tablet for the dosh.

As always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Android based are best for all round ease, you can upload onto them easier.
You need to go through itunes to load stuff onto an apple product, and are very restrictive

Forget the ipad, overpriced and overrated. And on the galaxy tab pro you have expandable storage and can use showbox and mobdro.
Google them if you don't know about them because the mods dont allow you to talk about them here.

And as you can see from the comparison there is no contest.

I do like the look of the Samsung Tab's. I would be looking for something for Facebook etc and also watching TV show (Netflix, RTE Player, 4oD etc) What would be the best for this?
    Thanks

both apple and Samsung will do all of this so it should come down to affordability for you.

The iPads are a very good tablet. I never liked iOS pre-version 7 but version 7 is nice an clean and the tablets perform well.
I wouldn't go for an iPad personally because I like the openness of Android, but iPads certainly do have a target market. If Apple opened up iOS a bit more I would be tempted by the iPad.

    Hi
You may find the nexus 7 2013model €199 pcworld/hmv its top rated by all the buffs and when they compare high spec expensive models they usually benchmark it against this one although there is a nexus 8 on the way. Nex 7 is very fast with a Brill screen usually found in much more xpensive ones and great all rounder.
The Asus memo pad 7 is another pcworld €139 top class processor not as high res screen as Nex7 but for the price its a steal if ye doing lot of web browse make sure it has 5 conection speed lots have 2.5 just means faster.

    Hi
Just meant to say on last post either of the two models above much superior to Samsung tab 1/2/3 tab 1 would be very old at this point bit of waste money when those two at such prices esp. Memopad 7.
    G.luck

Well I recommended the tab pro none of the normal tabs and it is streets ahead of a memo pad.

Well seeing that he was originally thinking about an iPad air I don't think he was worried about expense.
Also seeing that he was thinking about the iPad air I recommended a 10 inch tab that is better than an iPad air and half the price.
You then come on and recommended 7 inch tabs.
So why don't you be realistic and recommend the nexus 10? Oh maybe because its £100 more than the tab pro http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Nexus+10&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3ANexus+10. And far inferior http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5940&idPhone2=5084.

I take it if I want a 7" tablet the nexus 7 is better than the Ipad mini due to the price. However I would probably prefer the bigger 10" screen for games and watching movies. I have been told my someone who works in a computer shop that the Ipad is the best tablet about all be it expensive. What is the best Samsung Galaxy Tab about?

Oh really a guy in an electronics shop tried to sell you the most expensive tab in the whole store, I'm shocked! Anyway this is the best Samsung tab at the moment http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Titanium-Octa-Core-Android-SM-T800NTSABTU/dp/B00KHA5G6G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409904002&sr=8-1&keywords=Tab+s. But the tab pro will do everything you need and for €100 less.

The guy doesn't sell Ipad's so if anything he is losing a sale due to telling me to go for a tablet he doesn't have.

If you have a budget constraint, try Nexus tablets.

Also looking for a tablet for web browsing, facebook, twitter, boards, netflix, rte player etc. Ipad a bit expensive so any one recommend something cheaper or should I get the Ipad. Would want a decent size screen and be reasonably fast.

Would this be a good buy?
