    This is a breakthrough discovery. I was always a bit suspicious about the Cambrian "explosion" of life. As the famous astronomer Carl Sagan once opined "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."

    I'm sure there was rather complex (but soft-bodied and thus poorly preserved) animal life in the Edicarian period.
