Just in case anyone here owns a property in Ireland, and is unaware that you were liable for NPPR tax on that property from 2009-2013, be warned that local councils are issuing huge fines for unpaid charges, which will be doubled after 31st August if unpaid. I had never heard of it until my mother called to warn me today…

Just in case anyone here owns a property in Ireland, and is unaware that you were liable for NPPR tax on that property from 2009-2013, be warned that local councils are issuing huge fines for unpaid charges, which will be doubled after 31st August if unpaid. I had never heard of it until my mother called to warn me today (good old Joe Duffy).. it's causing a big stir back home right now. If you contact your local council before Sunday night, they will 'freeze' the fine at the current amount (for most people about 3,200 euros - charges + penalty) until payment arrangements / appeals are made.
