We will all be singing rodgers praises again this time next wk after he has just mastermindedtwo great victories over madrid and chelsea ;)

    Absolute pathetic performance by Liverpool.

Questions has to be asked of BR. Not saying he should be sacked but surely a rational debste can b had about him.

We never once looked like winning that game today.

As it stands Gerrard wouldn be getting a new contract if I were making decisions at LFC.

The only good news is everyone is officially a bit crap right now. The worry is that sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much is now being hung on the shoulders of one player. January is going to need a ready made striker, there is always someone out there (if that wasn't the case Suarez wouldn't have joined nor would Sturridge)

4-2-3-1 DOES NOT WORK 4-3-3 isn't great either.

Bournemouth play brighton at 5.15 on sky. Teixiera starts, good opportunity to see our next league cup opponents too.

Real Madrid are taking the piss, playing nearly their best 11 against Granada CF, they know they can put out the second string for Liverpool.

Napoli beat Roma 2-0 stand by for the bring back Rafa campaign.

Brendan Rodgers has spend £212m since he becamce Liverpool manager 28 months ago to say he is working on a limited budget and has to buy moneyball players is a joke.

It isn't the amount spent - it's who he has to buy and it's about the state of the squad he's had to try and improve.

Chelsea and City have had billions spent on their squads in the last 10 years.

It's facile to try to compare being able to add 1 or 2 top quality players (who you can afford to pay ludicrous wages to) to having to build an entire team from the ground up.
Edit:(Not saying you've said that but it's a common complaint).

Rodgers generally can't afford to buy players who will be of the desired calibre the season he signs them. They have to be geared towards maturing a few years down the line. That doesn't mean you never have players "arriving" into your squad. It just means it takes a while for that conveyor belt to start delivering consistently.

The idea is that the players are cheaper, the cost is spread over a longer period, the wages are easier to manage because players who aren't the finished article don't expect the sorts of wages a finished article player does and you constantly have a large number of saleable assets (vs a team full of useless oldies on massive wages, like the one Hodgson left).
Even if we lose half our money on players like Markovic or Moreno, that's still getting 10's of millions of pounds to reinvest every year.

I don't think the point is to uncover hidden gems or find the new Messi for £27 and a box of 2nd hand pornography. It's to create a self-sustaining squad with a fairly consistent level of wages, age and quality and never have to completely demolish the whole thing and start again.

That doesn't excuse all his signings either. You still need to sign players for the level you want to reach rather than the one you happen to be at (Aspas, Moses, Assaidi, Borini and so forth) but any manager coming in here is going to be under the same restrictions.

Out of the 20 players he bought and spent £202m on how many have improved our first team let alone our squad?

It isn't amount he spent that worries me it's the players he spent it on.

He seems to be a bad judge of players in the transfer market.

His transfer record is piss poor. I don't think that's really in contention is it?

It isn't a problem so long as you keep winning though, that's the rule.

Makes for pretty grim reading the list of players who came in, you could say the club by and large for many years now has bought very poorly.

This is what happens when you lose a 70m striker and replace him with an overpriced 16m player. We should not have skimped on a goalscorer. Especially with the kinds of money we have been spending on squad players and potential the last few transfer windows.

You cant replace Suarez but surely you do the best possible. We weren't really linked with any quality forward apart from Sanchez last summer. The main excuses are "we cant compete with other teams financially" or "they dont want to sign for clubs outside London" etc etc. Lets be honest, we aren't exactly broke, we can offer a decent wage and we could offer CL football also, which was another big excuse of years gone by.

Bottom line is if we could not get a quality player within our means then you have to look at the transfer committee and/or negotiators and replacing them. I'm not looking for "star" names either. Surely the scouts had a list of targets? If not, you have to ask why are they still employed here.

For me lallana has to be in the team ahead of coutinho now, he is the only player we have with a bit of creative spark
i would like to see us play 442 with lallana and sterling on wings, with borini and lambert up front, or a 4411 with lallana and markovic on wings and sterling playing just behind borini, it cant be any worse then 4 2 3 1 or 433

Well he's won two trophies in two seasons at Chelsea and Napoli. Not perfect at either club, some of which is down to him and some down to the context he's operating in but he's getting through solid miles. He loves the city and club here. He'll always be an option imo.

Rafa Benitez. Really. This is what the thread has come to. I mean we had great times with Rafa but his time is gone. Typical of some LFC fans to always look in the past. If people aren't willing to give BR time to get it right after proving he can get us to where we need to be then we have no hope of achieving anything. We'll be looking for a new manager every couple of years calling for managers heads when we dont instantly have sustained success.

10 games into the new season. Rafa Benitez? ****ing hell.

I've seen that around a bit.

    It's a bit embarrassing alright.

However combine it with his comments about how we could now attract top players as we were back in the CL but Utd would really struggle to, before they went out & signed DiMaria & Falcao & we signed over £100m of averageness, and it's ****ing cringeworthy stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

I think Rodgers knows the issues in the team. Fixing them is another matter but I think he recognises them, the main one being no spark in the final third. It's all a bit pedestrian to be honest. Sturridge returning will make a difference and I'd be surprised to see Balotelli last long than 18 months.

With regards to his comments, yes it's embarrassing for him. He's a mouth...and like any talker he is invariably going to talk so much crap that some of it will bite him in the arse. He's not the first manager to do this.

Whatever about the great Rafa and stuff .......10 games / 14 points ain't great tbh , LFC with the money we had to spent this year should be doing much much better than drawing with Hull at home and playing absolute sh1te football .

If you wanted you could probably get him back rather easily. His heart really is not in it over here. DeLaurentis made him promises of transfer kittys that will never come to pass.

I don't think they are at all !! Lovren and lallana are good players . How many mistakes between Lovren and skrtel have caused a goal to be conceded ? I would imagine it has been down to glen Johnson and the other full backs .

the manager does not tell his players to go out and play useless, they have been going out and playing useless ..they are professional,no matter what is asked of them they have to give 100 % every game...

that is not happening, klopps havin a mare of a start to a season too,you wont hear dortmund fans calling for his head..

short memories it seems in here.

rodgers has shown that when he has the players good enough who give everything he can work magic,im sticking with him, because right now i couldnt name a alternative to take over and give us what we want.

    seasons not over.

We've played more than 10 games. Performances are very poor, a lot needs to turn around. The longer this goes on the more intense discussion will become. As Rafa Benitez and Kenny found out, you must keep winning.

I will also note that Benitez was inserted into the thread by Mike, not by Alan or me, etc.

We finished second the year before Rafa got sacked.

Pointing out the second place finish only illustrates how quickly we're going backwards :(

Klopp has been hamstrung by some pretty awful injury problems. Once they get them back they'll be nearer the top. We, on the other hand, Sturridge apart, are playing with a full deck.

No he doesn't you are right.

What he does though is tell them how to play and in what system to play and having full backs play in the opposition half leaving the CB's exposed and open to a counter attack and playing one player up front on his own who has to come deep to get the ball which then leaves us with no one in attack.

So they are being professional in doing what the manager asks them to do.
