Di Maria with 1 brilliant goal and 3 assists for Argentina against Germany so far tonight, he is unreal and should get plenty of points this season for Utd.

Pity he can't do that against Burnley ;)

His first game of football since the World Cup that was, in his first game for Man Utd, in his first game in the Premier League, in a new environment. And even against Burnley he stood out like a sore thumb.

He'd have been alright if Falcao was at the end of his crosses.

Di Maria for either Ramsey or Fabergas?

He's a 60 mil player. He'd want to be standing out against Burnley. They're a team of journeymen like Jones and Dean Marney.

    Right, whatever.
My initial post was to let people know Di Maria is playing well, take your ABU nonsense elsewhere.

I was more thinking of Mata's blatent miss from a superb Di Maria cross. If you are trying to suggest Di Maria is crap after 70 minutes against Burnley I can only imagine you're biased or don't understand football.

I'm currently on wildcard. I have Ivanovich in at moment (cost me 7.1) but I really don't know if I'll keep him. it really weakens rest of defence.
so I looked at courtois instead of krul/mannnone......not sure either he is worth one million more than having 2 starting keepers with perfect rotation.....is it crazy to go without Chelsea defensive cover????
the other defenders I'm contemplating choosing from are shawcross (almost 100% either way), Jones, Moreno, Clyne/new saints CB, Colocini/PVA (if courtois in goals. Moore from leics will be my 5th and depending on what way I go may also keep Hutton despite fixtures

Calm down. My initial post was tongue in cheek. Hence the smiley face. I then commented that Di Maria should definitely stand out against a team of journeymen. I fail to see the problem with that.

It's no ABU nonsense either. It's an opinion from someone who doesn't even support a PL club. If anything, I find a lack of bias helps me in this game.

I've an eye on Di Maria, as I do Falcao, but I'll see how they settle in before bringing them in if warranted.

Jaysus it's seems Di Maria has quite a few fan boys here. I don't think he'll get the goals to justify his fpl price as he's a very unselfish player.

As a mid assists will do.

What I don't get is people using the wildcards this GW for price rises but activating it now and not at the end of the GW.

Everybody should be taking the points hits and then on Sept 13th activating the WC to eliminate all the hits. If it's true that wildcards are not affecting price rises then why activate it up front? Means your bringing in players in the hope that they'll rise while at the same time ensuring that transfer doesn't help you achieve that, madness!

If you activate at the end of the GW, you'll get all points hits back, so there's no rush.

If your sole aim is to make money of your transfers in then yes your approach makes sense, but I doubt many WC have been activated and so wouldn't make a huge difference to transfers in/out and hence changes in prices.

Also possibility of one forgetting to wild card on the 13th and end up with a 20+ point hit.

And one other point the rule is actually just a theory.

The lads aren't biased one supports Blackburn the other villa both are in our fsa premier league due to a really high finish last year so know what they are talking about with regard to fantasy football. Fantasy football is not football in that a good player is a good ff player. I'd wait and see with adm myself we have no idea what position he will play but chances are it will be a lot deeper than he played for Argentina with roo RVP Falcao and mata all likely to play further forward. There is also serious competition in his price range for spots in our midfield. You may be showing a bit of bias yourself in confusing a very exciting signing for the team you support with a must have ff option.

The way the price rises are working this year (or lack thereof) means that you probably wont make much on price rises.
Waiting for Sterling to go up to make 0.1 before getting rid.

In fairness though I made a couple of changes for a 4 point hit and when I made a few more transfers I hit the wildcard button. A 4 point hit yes, 8 points maybe, 12 & up - no.
Making money in the process would be an added bonus. Just need Sterling to rise again before Falcao does - looking doubtful.

Yeah I do the same regarding WC.

And I'd be really happy to make £0.2m net profit from this WC.

Exactly, all we know so far is that he was used as a centre mid deeper than Mata. If LVG keeps playing him there then I can't see him justifying his fpl price tag.

There's no question, I am totally biased, but original poster suggested Di Maria as a good option based on three assists and a goal against Germany, in my biased opinion I'd agree with him based on his attacking options to pass to at United, Id also say the same of Sterling, Fabregas etc. I enjoy the game and appreciate all good players regardless of team but do dislike tribalism and ABU.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,027 ✭✭✭✭Ace2007

I'd say Mata will be on the bench more than any of the new lads that have come in.

If he plays off the front men or left hand side of a front 3 he will be on my radar. My main problem with him is that he doesn't score enough goals which is important in ff as goals are worth 5 pts and assists which he specialises in are only 3 pts. He is a class player easily one of the top 5 in the league it remains to be seen if he will be a good ff prospect at 9.5 though.

I think you could be right, hard to see how they'll all fit in and Rooney's captaincy will probably give him some grace.

Fair enough, I mainly pick midfielders looking for assists, have Siggy, Fabregas, Di Maria, Sterling, I'd expect some goals but would be happy with assists, maybe that's where my opinion differs.

It's fairly easy to get him in - just will have to play 3-4-3 with no keeper rotation, defence may be a little weak, depending who you pick but at same time could be seen as strong.

Definitely will save him from the chop because to be honest ability wise as a number 10 mata wipes the floor with him and the same goes for the striker role , rvp and falcoe are streets ahead of him.

    I currently have

    Lloris

Jones Moreno Ivanovic Clyne Wisdom-- I have spent alot on my defence because I think there is alot of options in the attackers to score highly.

I half-agree. Thing is you're still going to only play 3 at the back so there's only a need for 2 of Jones, Moreno, Clyne. But that defence looks good

Utd Chelsea Liverpool & Southampton play 3 of their next 4 games at home. I am thinking of opting for a 4 at the back policy for these weeks and then downgrading based on other fixtures & upgrading on the attackers based on form.

I am gonna go with a 4-4-2 for the 4 gameweeks & see how it pans out with the view to reverting to a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2

I'm still undecided whether I'll make any more transfers. Want to avoid points hits this season, went a bit mental with them last year! If I can hold off it means doing Debuchy -> Wilson next week and then Rooney -> Aguero the following week. It relies on Aguero not rising and Rooney not falling below £10.4m though... and I'd be forced to play Van Aanholt against Spurs.

Rooney looking awfully close to a drop at this stage.

Decided to jump ship and bring in Falcao

Don't worry, based on trends this season the most transferred out players goes on to score double digits the following week so i'll be happy if Rooney continues this statistic.

    I didn't want to! :(

I just can't afford any more drops. My team has a resale value of 100.1 and I'm determined to keep that 0.1!! :D

Don't think Rooney will drop just yet but will soon. Hoping he won't go 0.2

I'm torn at the moment. I can afford to do Rooney to Falcao OR Mata to di Maria with my ft. I expect to want one or the other as my United cover, think they are a long way from justifying two of the precious front 7 spots just yet.

I'd wait and decide next week but with both Roo and Mata likely to drop I feel I'll have to do whichever of them this week to save money.

Di Maria...we don't know exactly how andwwhere he will play, but he came to United I'd be certain with some guarantees that he'll not be on the bench. And as stated elsewhere dropping the club captain is hardly likely just yet.

So Mata I feel is the most likely to see hos game time affected initially.

Falcao hasn't played 90 yet this season so is a risk. I think lvg will give Rooney a chance to step up. He has made him captain and put him back to his favoured position ans he's done SFA so far. Now he has some serious motivation.

So I was gonna ask a question but I think I just answered it. If Rooney doesn't shine it will be Rooney to Aguero (or a Liverpool striker) next week probably.

    Potential doesn't score points.

He had the potential against Burnely for 69 minutes, 0 goals, 0 asssits, 17 short of getting a bonus point. Until he starts returning he ain't going in my team.

Right now he has the exact same potential as Ozil had this time last year (Ozil argubly in a better team too).

He was the best player on a team of heartless individuals. His first game in a new country, in a new team, in a new system, in a new league - and he still stood out. I abso-fecking-lutely guarantee he will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season in terms of points.

And when we know what the system is and his role and when the team settles down, then he will be worth buying. I'm holding off til I can see a return. At the moment Fabregas is cheaper and scoring point every week, so I'll be sticking with him for the time being.

My transfer this week will more than likely be Mata out for Fabregas. Will probably do it tonight as I think Mata will be dropping in price soon and I can't afford that to happen as Fabregas has already risen this gameweek.

I'll be honest, I wasn't really considering him after the Burnley game but he bossed the game against the World Champions so he has to be considered! Hopefully by GW6 we'll have a better idea of who the key players are. I definitely have my eye on Falcao and Di Maria but United need to kick on soon, they've spent more than anyone this year and still aren't beating the likes of Burnley! We'll see if Falcao and Blind can finally sort this...

Either way United have a horrible run GW 9-12 so I wouldn't really want a lot of their players in my team over this period, regardless of whether they start to turn things around.
