How to prevent video quality loss in windows movie maker

Have windows movie maker 2.6 and am wondering does it cause a reduction in video quality when you publish videos and how can I prevent this and are there alternative program's that can edit and publish videos in the same way without leading to a loss of quality Would windows movie maker live work

With Movie Maker it's all what about what you publish the finished project as.
Hit the down arrow under Save Movie & all the options are there for finished quality.
